Seeing it on her brand new (falsified but officially accepted) birth certificate and (somehow legitimate!) social security card wasn't quite enough to make it feel real.
She managed to avoid typing it before her first day of high school. (Her mom filled out the enrollment paperwork.)
It wasn't until her first period Spanish class that she dared to write it.
Had to write it, on the pop quiz waiting for her at a free desk.
Vee Noceda.
Her teacher glanced at her completed quiz. "Noceda? Any relation to Luz? She's in my Spanish III class."
Vee smiled.
"She's my sister."
