"Starlight slow down a bit!" Aziraphale called as he tried to make sure Crowley wasn't going to run head first into a bookshelf. He was always so absorbed in his play he sometimes didn't pay attention to his surroundings. There was more than one time that Crowley got hurt and ended up doing accidental miracles while small.
Aziraphale did not want to explain to the neighbors why there was a giant squid-hound creature in the shop again.
"Okay mama!" Crowley called as he continued to run (though slower now) around with his toy space ship. Aziraphale had miracled a few other toys like stars, planets and their moons into the air so Crowley could fly his spaceship between them (and if any humans ask he told them that he used very clear fishing line to hang them.)
The bell rang and Aziraphale turned towards the door to greet the customer. Crowley continued to play in between the shelves. Aziraphale tried to keep track of Crowley out of the corner of his eye, but in the end he knew it wouldn't really work.
"Hello, welcome to A.Z Fell and Co, please let me know if there's anyway I can assist you." Aziraphale greeted the man, who just straight up ignored Aziraphale as he went to start looking through some of the shelves. Aziraphale just ignored the rude gesture.
Aziraphale turned around to go find Crowley, but didn't immediately see him. He began to walk through the shelves, not stressed out about where Crowley was because he knew Crowley wouldn't leave the shop when small without him.
When Aziraphale did find Crowley it was not a very pleasant sight. The customer would had walked in had seemed to have been run into by Crowley.
Crowley was sitting on the ground in front of the man, tears in his eyes. He had dropped his space ship and his pacifier (which was still clipped to his shirt so it truly didn't go far). The man was practically yelling at Crowley, which made Aziraphale angry at once.
"You didn't even fucking look where you're going. You're running around with a god damn pacifier in your mouth like a fucking kid. You're a grown adult, fucking act like it." The man spat at Crowley. Aziraphale could see the tears falling out of Crowley's eyes.
"Leave now." Aziraphale said at once from behind Crowley. Crowley looked up, spotting Aziraphale and made grabby hands towards him. "One moment darling." Aziraphale said gently to Crowley, quickly wiping the tears off of his face before turning back to the man. "I'm not repeating myself again, leave."
"Why the fuck should I leave? This freak is the one who is causing issues." The man scoffed. Aziraphale was close to smitting the man right where he stood.
"Because that is my partner, and you're being a hateful person. Leave." Aziraphale said, doing his best to not stoop down to swearing in front of Crowley, and luckily the man scoffed again and turned towards the door. Once he was gone he turned back to Crowley.
"Mama." Crowley sobbed as he made grabby hands for Aziraphale again. Aziraphale picked him up at once, placing Crowley directly on his hip. Crowley wrapped his arms around Aziraphale and held him tightly.
"Oh my starlight, I'm sorry you had to deal with that." Aziraphale said but Crowley just buried his head in Aziraphale's shoulder as a response. Aziraphale could feel his shirt began to grow wet and he knew Crowley was still crying. "He was just a big meanie okay? You don't have to listen to him."
"Mama." Crowley sobbed again, and due to the fact that Crowley wasn't cursing this man's existence (Aziraphale does try to discourage what they refer to as "baby swearing" but Crowley sometimes can't help it), Aziraphale thought it safe to assume that Crowley had slipped even younger. The younger he got the less he spoke, and most of the time he was only able to actually say the nickname he had given to Aziraphale.
"I know my star, but mama is right here and the mean man isn't okay? You aren't any of the things he said. You are my precious little darling." Aziraphale reassured as he walked over to the front door, locking it and flipping the closed sign around. With a wave of his hand all the curtains closed as well. He also managed to put the pacifier back in Crowley's mouth. .
Aziraphale, with Crowley still on his hip, took Crowley to their room. He set Crowley down on the bed and turned on the star projector. The ceiling filled with beautiful, and pretty accurate, recreations of the stars. Crowley's eyes filled with wonder as he stared up at the ceiling.
Aziraphale walked over to the trunk of blankets they had and opened it up. He pulled out Crowley's favorite one, a glow in the dark blanket with lots of plants, stars, space ships and astronauts on them. He brought it back over to Crowley.
"Here you are my star." Aziraphale said softly as he placed the blanket over Crowley. Crowley gave a small smile as he grabbed the blanket and began to run his fingers over the soft fabric.
Smiling to himself because he knew it would keep Crowley distracted, Aziraphale made his way back to the kitchen to prepare a bottle for Crowley. He of course went with the star themed one.
Back in the room Crowley was still very content where he was laying on the bed with his blanket. Aziraphale sat down on the bed next to Crowley, and of course Crowley immediately moved to sit even closer to Aziraphale.
"Mama." Crowley said and Aziraphale just hummed. He positioned them so he could give Crowley the bottle, which Crowley seemed excited about it. Aziraphale just conjured up a book and opened it so he could begin reading to Crowley, something both of them always enjoyed.
By the end of the first chapter Crowley had finished his bottle and fallen asleep all but laying on Aziraphale. Aziraphale just made sure the blanket was pulled up over Crowley, gave him a kiss on the forehead, and picked up his own book to read off of the nightstand.
He didn't want to leave Crowley when he was asleep, and he was perfectly fine with waiting right where he was.
