Chapter Text
Eret blinked as the sun hit her face through the leaves of the tree above her, then she smiled as the light warmed her face.
It was a beautiful day outside and the boys had been kicked out of the house to have fun. Eret had volunteered to watch them, but Phil had decided that the rest of the family should enjoy the weather too.
Wilbur had thrown a fit and Techno took much joy in dragging him out the door. Niki had even come to join them, bringing Ranboo along.
It had been months since the fiasco at Dreamaker’s lair, but thankfully, all of their physical injuries had healed.
Tommy was bright and happy and he was gliding around, trying to stay out of Tubbo’s reach, while Ranboo teleported to their hearts content. Tommy’s feathers had returned to their once bright maroon color and they shimmered in the sunlight.
Wilbur was sitting on the swing with his guitar, trying to tune it while watching the teens mess around.
Techno was talking with Niki on a bench on the other side of the playground and Phil was feeding the fish at the pond down the path.
The wind picked up and the branches moved, blocking the sunlight from her face and making her shiver involuntarily.
These past couple of months had been difficult, the cold of the winter seeming to seep into everyone and dampening their hope of a better future. It had passed, thankfully, but not before the family had had to have a serious talk.
Tommy’s injuries had healed slowly, even with the help of Eret’s power, which was greatly diminished by her own injury.
The poison had long been counteracted with an antivenom potion and her stab wound had healed itself quick enough.
The only thing that was still healing at this point was the mental trauma.
Tommy would still wake up crying because he felt alone and the world was resting on his shoulders.
Techno, Wilbur, and Phil had all quit their jobs in the hero corporation and all found jobs that let them work from home so that Tommy was rarely out of their sight now.
Tubbo flinched at loud sounds and had started going to therapy, per Schlatt’s request.
Ranboo and Niki both understood the family’s separation anxiety and had let Tommy take frequent breaks to call or sit with his people, and honestly it was surprising that he even wanted to continue working at the cafe.
Eret herself couldn’t stand letting Tommy too far out of her sight and she had started working with Schlatt, Phil, and Niki to make sure Tommy, Tubbo, and Ranboo can get to each other if anything goes horribly wrong again.
They were all still healing, and they all still had nightmares, but they had done well at trying to remove themselves from the hero-villain conflicts.
Speaking of villains, Tommy had tackled Tubbo, and was laughing loudly and without fear.
“I got you!” He cheered with a happy warble.
“The point of the game was for you to avoid me!” Tubbo shouted, “Not the other way around!”
Tommy laughed and got off him, pulling his friend to his feet before they were both bowled over by Ranboo’s next misplaced teleport.
“Aw, come on!” Tommy yelped as he landed on the bottom of the dog pile.
Eret chuckled and went back to sketching in her sketchbook. She had stopped drawing since Wilbur went missing and she never realized how much she missed it.
The three heroes had, allegedly, disappeared that night, along with Dreamaker, leaving a power vacuum that lesser villains and heroes were still trying to fill even months later. Smaller crimes were also the lowest they had been in years, something that continued to mystify Eret.
Another loud screech echoed across the park and Eret smiled wider.
“Guys!” Wilbur shouted, “This guitar is expensive! Be careful!”
“Don’t bring important and sentimental things to public places then.” Ranboo smiled back.
“I was trying to tune it! You messed me up!” Wilbur whined, Techno looked up and raised an eyebrow, before turning back to his conversation with Niki.
“Stop being a whiny bitch, Wil!” Tommy laughed, grabbing the guitar and setting it gently in the box before going back to play fighting with Wilbur.
It was a beautiful day and Eret couldn’t have asked for more.
