So Much For Secrets

Chapter Text

Katsuki doesn’t know why but he’s felt Shinsou’s damn eyes on him for the last week and it’s starting to get a little bit concerning, to be honest. At first, he figured it was just because Katsuki is one of the new guys and because of that whole him recognizing Izuku thing and Katsuki maybe being a little dramatic about it that happened on his first day here but now he doesn’t think that’s it at all. In fact, he thinks that maybe the man knows about his relationship with Izuku.

Obviously, he doesn’t know for sure. He can’t. Yet, he has a feeling that the guy knows something about it and it fucking irks him. The way he’s always so nonchalant and all calm, acting like he’s better than everyone else and makes it seem like he knows everything all of the time. It irks Katsuki and he wants it to stop and he wants it to stop right fucking now.

Except, when he brings this up to Izuku, his boyfriend decides to tell him to just leave it alone because he’s sure that Shinsou doesn’t mean anything by it and that it’s just a coincidence that Katsuki always catches him staring.

“I just don’t like it, Izu,” Katsuki sighs heavily, sitting down onto Izuku’s bed and moving himself up so that he’s leaning against the wall to watch as Izuku grabs hsi laptop, “It’s weird, the way he’s always watching us.”

Izuku shrugs, sitting on the bed with Katsuki, getting comfortable right next to him and opening up the laptop, “I mean, as long as he isn’t slinging insults at me left and right I couldn’t care less.”

And, well, how is Katsuki supposed to say anything to that answer? That’s completely valid considering the terrible people that Izuku had to be surrounded with in their last stations so, really, what’s a few stares to him? Nothing.

That doesn’t make Katsuki any more comfortable about it, though. It also doesn’t make him any less concerned or weirded out, among other shit. He takes a deep breath and decides to just ignore it for the night, he has more important things to worry about; for example, cuddling with his absolutely amazing boyfriend and deciding on a movie to watch with him.

It may or may not end up taking them half an hour to actually decide on a movie and, somehow, they end up watching one of those extremely shitty romcoms that nobody really likes but only watches for the shits and giggles. Yeah, one of those. All in all, it is actually pretty entertaining, Katsuki can’t lie (or maybe it’s just the fact that having Izuku so close to him and being able to kiss him whenever the fuck he wanted made the movie that much more entertaining).

Needless to say, the next time they end up at work, Katsuki feels the stare of both Shinsou and Kaminari on him. He wants nothing more than to march over there, demand they tell him why the fuck they’re staring, and threaten them into minding their own damn business but the moment he starts thinking about it a bit too seriously, he gets a glare sent his way by Izuku. That effectively shuts him down (in more ways than one).

He pulls Izuku over to the side just to decompress after a call where both Shinsou and Kaminari are staring just a bit too much. They go into a corner of the station where they’re likely to be left pretty much completely alone and they whisper while leaning on each other, “I am kind of sick of the stares,” Izuku admits, mumbling, “I know I said that as long as it’s not insults coming my way that it’d be fine but the stares are kind of, sort of, maybe just as draining?”

“That’s what I’ve been fuckin’ saying,” Katsuki says and while the words seem like they’d have a bite to them, like a ’I told you so’ sort of deal, they don’t. He says them gently, no hostility. He knows how excruciating it was for Izuku in some of the places they’ve worked in previously and Katsuki hadn’t really been any help, mostly because of how oblivious he was to what was going on but now he’s not going to do that anymore. He’s vowed to be more aware of the things that are troubling Izuku, he doesn’t want him to feel left out or like he’s less than anyone else in their station.

Izuku’s always been so much more than just a guy to toss onto the “lesser” tasks, especially to Katsuki. Hell, he’s always been sort of obsessed with Izuku in a way that he himself didn’t even understand. Everything he did was because he felt like he had something to prove but not to just anyone; he had something to prove to Izuku. He’s also pretty sure he’s always been at least a little bit in love with the man (it’s kind of hard not to be when he looks like that and the way he speaks is so endearing and they like a lot of the same things and when they’re apart Katsuki feels like he’s missing part of himself - as corny as that sounds - and when they’re together Katsuki feels like he’s falling apart and- okay yeah, point is, it’s very easy to love Midoriya Izuku). So, when they got to this station and, like, fuckin’ half the people immediately jumped to assume that the both of them were already dating?

Katsuki kind of shut down a bit and avoided Izuku, which now he knows was a dumb move. Unfortunately, he’s never really been among the smartest of people when it comes to Izuku clouding his judgement, his mind, his vision, his everything. He was just scared, as shitty as that sounds; he knows that being scared doesn’t make up for the way he kind of, basically, ignored Izuku all day that day or for making Izuku feel, once again, like he was worthless.

Katsuki was truly fucking terrified of telling Izuku he’s in love with him, the endless possibilities of the endings played over and over again in his mind until he finally spewed out the words that day. Then, his mind just went completely blank waiting for Izuku’s answer like he was a kid on christmas morning waiting for his parents to wake up.

Obviously, that ended up with the both of them kissing and him gaining a boyfriend out of it but it doesn’t change how out of control of the whole situation he felt. He likes to be in control. He needs to be in control in any situation he’s in and, yet, whenever it comes to Izuku it’s like all of those inhibitions fail and they leave him until he’s left with handing all of the control over to Izuku who he knows feels less in control on a constant that Katsuki ever will but, god, Katsuki can’t help just giving it all to Izuku. He doesn’t need to be in control when he’s with Izuku. Does he want to? Yeah, maybe a little (read: huge) part of him deep deep down (read: right there on the surface) wants that control because he always wants control; But, he does it anyway. He just doesn’t like when situations are left up to chance like it felt when he blurted out the words, “Can you just shut up and let me tell you I’m in love with you?”

Now, he knows that there was no possible way in which it ended up any differently than it did but minds play filthy tricks on you in the moment and his was playing the filthiest trick ever. He was sure that he ruined everything with just a few simple words so hearing Izuku’s own confession brought him huge relief and-

“What should we do about it?” Izuku asks, nervously wringing his hands together, “I don’t want to be mean or anything but it does make me a little bit uncomfortable and I’d rather-”

“Just let me tell them to leave us the fuck alone,” Katsuki glares right back over at them and, for once, they actually aren’t staring at the both of them but, rather, talking to each other, “I’ll go over there and tell them to stop. It’ll be fine.”

“Maybe we should just talk to them and ask them what’s going on instead of, like, immediately assuming things,” Izuku suggests, glancing around before seemingly deciding that he doesn’t actually care and grabs Katsuki’s hand anyway, “I’d really rather not start any problems, I don’t want things to get bad here. I can’t handle another bad station.”

That’s when Katsuki’s instincts immediately yell at him to comfort Izuku instead of trying to protect him from the stares. So, he pulls Izuku into a hug, not caring if there’s anybody watching because those people can fuck right off, and whispers, “It’s not gonna get bad here, I fuckin’ promise, yeah?”

“How do you know?” Izuku mumbles and his grip on the hug tightens, his hands clenching on the back of Katsuki’s shirt. His eyes are shut and his face is buried in Katsuki’s chest. The both of them are very bad at being secretive but, if they’re being honest, they did this kind of shit before them being in a relationship was even a thing so it’s not like a weird shift in who they are as people- Though, there’s also the fact that these people haven’t known Izuku and Katsuki for very long so it’s not like anybody but, like, Kaminari and Uraraka knew how they acted with each other prior and even then, it’s not like they actually saw much back in their academy days. Besides, that was so long ago that Katsuki doubts they really even remember much from then.

“I know because I won’t let it, okay?” Katsuki digs his fingers into Izuku’s hair, running slowly through it to make sure that he doesn’t hit any knots, “I’ve been a fuckin’ idiot in the past, I’m not making those mistakes again, Izu.”

Izuku pulls away from the hug and gives a huge smile to Katsuki, “thank you. I appreciate you so much.”

Katsuki really wanted to lean down and kiss that beautiful face but they’re still at work and he’ll have time to do that later, when they get off shift, “We can go talk to them right now, how about that?”

Izuku nods, agreeing with that idea quickly, which leads them to walking over to where Shinsou and Kaminari are cuddling on the couch. The both of them look up and move away from each other a bit, that way they aren’t completely on top of each other, “Hey guys,” Kaminari grins at them, “what’s up?”

“We wanna talk,” Izuku is the one to speak first and he sits on the other couch, facing Kaminari. Katsuki sits next to him and lets him take the lead because clearly he’s got this. He’ll be sure to be here to pick it up if he needs him to.

“About…?” Shinsou questions, sitting up and becoming more alert. He looks between both Izuku and Katsuki but doesn’t say anything further.

Izuku twiddles with his fingers for a little bit before he’s pushing forward into the conversation, “We’ve kinda noticed your staring,” He’s clearly nervous but it doesn’t deter him.

Katsuki smiles because of how proud he is of the man, he’s come pretty damn far. As a kid, he was always willing to speak out for what was right but as they grew older, his confidence slowly dwindled down further and further until it became pretty much nowhere to be found but it’s nice to see it working it’s way back up again. It’s making it’s way right back to where it should be, slowly but surely.

Shinsou and Kaminari exchange glances with each other before looking back at Izuku and Katsuki, “We’re sorry-” Kaminari immediately blurts out, “we really don’t mean to and Cap already got onto us about it but we just can’t help it, you guys are just so-”

“Denk,” Shinsou interrupts him with both the name and a glare over in his direction, effectivel getting Kaminari to stop in his tracks so that Shinsou could continue to speak. He looks to Izuku and Katsuki, “He’s right, my dad did notice our staring and tell us to pipe down on it and we’ve tried but-”

“It’s just been making me uncomfortable,” Izuku mutters out the truth, which Katsuki knows has to have been a hard thing for him to do, “it’s- I’ve just not had good experiences that came from people staring at me, that’s all. So I’d appreciate it if you tried a little bit harder because I really don’t think that’s too much to ask,” It’s kind of hard to miss but Katsuki definitely heard a little bit of snark in his tone, sass if you will. God, Katsuki loves a sassy Izuku.

“I’m sorry,” Shinsou apologizes and it does seem genuinely sincere but Katsuki doesn’t know this guy very well so it’s not like he can trust him immediately.

“I’m sorry too,” Kaminari chimes in now, realizing that he’s actually allowed to now, “we really didn’t mean to make you nervous or uncomfortable. We think you’re super cool! Or,” He chuckles, “at least I do; I don’t think ‘Toshi thinks anybody is cool, to be honest.”

Shinsou rolls his eyes, “I think plenty of people are cool, thank you very much. You just don’t happen to be one of them.”

Kaminari gasps, placing a hand onto his chest all dramatic like, “Wow, you dare say such a thing about your own husband? I’m hurt.”

Katsuki finds himself interrupting their little show because it’s not about them right now, “Hey,” He clears his throat and nods over to Izuku.

“Right,” Shinsou nods, moving his attention away from Kaminari, “I am very sorry for the staring. I promise it won’t happen again. We will keep our eyes to ourselves.”

“Can I ask, uh,” Izuku pauses for a split second and then sort of whispers, “why the staring has been happening?”

“Honestly?”

“yes.”

“We are incredibly shocked by the fact that you aren’t a couple,” Shinsou admit, a dry chuckle following it, clearly an awkward situation.

Izuku glances back at Katsuki and then Katsuki can immediately see the little smirk underneath his serious face, “Right.”

“Hope you know that that’s a weird as fuck reason to stare,” Katsuki includes.

“Let us make it up to you,” Kaminari blurts out, “you both can come to our place for dinner after this shift is over, we’ll cook up something good and-”

I’ll cook up something good,” Shinsou corrects, “I think Denk might burn the kitchen down if he cooked.”

“Hey, at least I’m a firefighter,” Kaminari argued, “I’d know how to put it out.”

Katsuki is like this close to questioning why him and Izuku coming over to their home would be “making it up to them” for staring at them like stalkers but the, they’re interrupted by the alarm. Kaminari stands up quickly and smiles, “Great, we’ll see you there! I’ll text you the address,” Kaminari says quickly before moving on to get ready to answer the call, Shinsou follows right behind him.

Katsuki turns to Izuku and sighs, “The fuck just happened.”

“Looks like we’re goin’ to dinner at their house, buddy,” Izuku bites the insides of both of his lips, an attempt to keep himself from laughing.”

“Oh fuck you,” Katsuki scoffs and leaves, knocking Izuku’s shoulder with his own on his way past him.

Izuku is right on his trail, though, giggling, “You and me, pal.”

If they weren’t in the middle of their place of work right in that moment, Katsuki would threaten to break up with Izuku on the spot (jokingly, of course). Instead, he just brings their attention back to what the hell just happened, “So, did we really just get invited to dinner at their house?”

Izuku nods, “After confronting them? Yeah. No clue how that happened,” He shrugs, “I think maybe it could be fun, though?”

Katsuki is full of confusion but he doesn’t have time for questions as they get ready for the call and leave. It’s a house fire and when they arrive, everybody has already managed to get out on their own and is accounted for, so they’re just in charge of putting out the fire, which they end up doing fairly quickly and before they know it they’re back at their station.

Katsuki somehow finds himself alone with Izuku, sitting on a couch in the lounge area. Usually, this place is packed, so it’s definitely a bit shocking to be able to have the place mostly to themselves. There are people in teh kitchen, which is very nearby the lounge area, but it’s unlikely that they can hear them as they talk. Speaking of talking, Katsuki si the one that does it first, “So, about this dinner, you wanna go?”

Izuku turns to look at Katsuki with a big ol’ smile on his face, Katsuki just wants to kiss it right there in the middle of the station, “Well, I don’t think they really gave us a choice, I already got texted the address,” He pulls out his phone and taps it a few times before showing Katuski a text from Shinsou. It’s the address accompanied with a short message asking if either of them have any allergies or food restrictions.

“I could always tell ‘em to fuck off,” Katsuki suggests because that’s definitely not out of his comfort zone, “I just don’t want shit to get bad for you.”

Izuku shakes his head, sporting a smile, “I don’t think it will, I really don’t think they have any ill intentions. I think they’re just curious and,” He lowers his voicce before he continues the next bit of what he’s saying, “they aren’t really wrong about us, so…” He trails off.

Katsuki supposed he’s right but, also, he still thinks it’s really fuckin’ weird to stare at peeople just because you think they might be a couple or because you’re shocked that they aren’t or whatever dumb reason those two told them. It’s just weird. What if they were wrong? What if Katsuki and Izuku really were just friends (because they quite literally were not that long ago) and those two were doin’ whatever weird thing they had planned with their stares. It’d be weird. It’s still weird even with them being right- Yeah, okay, Katsuki can only say the word weird so much but it is.

It’s fucking weird.

Katsuki and Izuku spend the rest of their shift with each other, which isn’t out of the usual for them. They tend to spend a lot of their shifts together, even when they’re on call since they’re always partnering together on jobs. Even when their shift is over, they both head to Katsuki’s car to make their way home.

Ever since they got together, they honestly spend pretty much every waking hour together- Well, shit, not even just their waking hours because they both tend to stay over at one or the other’s house and have a sleepover. Then, of course, they both sleep in the bunk room during overnight shifts. So, basically, they’re spending time together 24/7 and neither of them get tired of it in the slightest.

Katsuki himself fucking loves it. He’s thriving in it. Even all this time he’s spending with Izuku isn’t enough and he wants more. Obviously, that’s impossible. He can’t add hours to the day but he can sure as hell try (read: stay up until inhumane hours of the night with Izuku to watch movies or talk about their day, even though they spent the whole day together already).

They both head to Katsuki’s place after work this time because his roommate is gone for a week, meaning they have the place to themself. Usually, they’d shower and then hang out in bed together, maybe watch a movie and Katsuki would cook or they’d order in or something but, this time, they have a dinner to get to in a few hours. They’re both beyond tired but, at this point in their lives, when are they not?

He’s sure that Shinsou and Kaminari are tired too so they won’t be the only ones. Katsuki and Izuku do still take a quick shower (together, to save water, of course, no other reason) before getting ready. Izuku wears his stupid “t-shirt” shirt and a pair of jeans. Katsuki just grabs out a random shirt, not having much of a mind to properly think too much about his outfit. Of course, he makes sure it matches and looks good on him. Everthing looks good on him, so that’s not a struggle in the slightest - no, he does not have a god complex (yes, he does).

They leave Katsuki’s apartment at about 6:30PM to head over to Kaminari’s and Shinsou’s place. Katsuki can pretty much overhear the overthinking from Izuku as they get into the car so he grab’s his boyfriends hand and looks him directly into the eye, “We can still tell them to fuck off and just stay here.”

“No,” Izuku shakes his head, a tight smile on his face, “I wanna go, I think it’ll be good for us to get to know them and I don’t wanna come across as rude.”

“Kaminari already knows how fuckin’ rude I am from bein’ in the academy together,” Katsuki notes, he was even more of an asshole back then than he is right now, to be completely honest.

Izuku laughs and roll his eyes, letting out a small scoff before teasing, “Well, I don’t want to be roped in with your asshole-ish nature.”

It’s nice to hear Izuku joking, even though Katsuki knows he’s filled to the brim with anxiety. Katsuki just flips him off with his free hand and starts the car, “Well you did that to yourself.”

“Nope,” He denies.

“Off we go, then?” Katsuki places his hand on the steering wheel, “No turning back?”

“No turning back,” Izuku confirms, then Katsuki knocks the car into drive and moves forward.

They arrive at the address sent to them shortly afterward and it doesn’t take them long to start heading up to the door - just a quick kiss for good luck before they’re climbing out of the car. Then, they find their way in front of the door, knocking a couple times. The answer is quick, they haven’t been waiting for long by the time they see Kaminari’s face on the other side of the doorway, a wide grin shining out at the both of them, his voice loud and boisterous, “You guys came! I’m so happy, oh my god, come in,” Kaminari takes a step back and gestures for them to come inside.

Katsuki lets Izuku step inside first, walking in right behind him. Katsuki is immediately hit with the smell of whatever it is Shinsou’s cooking, he doesn’t have it in himself to actually properly think about it but he does know that it smells damn good. They both take off their shoes per Kaminari’s request and walk further into the house. It’s… nice, especially given that their salaries are that of two firefighters (needless to say not the best salaries but decent enough for a home like this, apparently). It’s fairly cluttered but it’s not messy or anything, they must’ve cleaned before Katsuki and Izuku came over.

Katsuki immediately notices the presence of cats and not because he physically sees one but because of the toys all scattered around the place. Also because of the look that Izuku gives him, his eyes wide in a way that can only mean one thing. He sees a cat. Katsuki loves the smile on his face and he just wants to kiss the corner of his mouth and then his lips and then-

Okay, so he really loves this man and everything he does is absolutely god damn perfect in Katsuki’s humble opinion.

“You can go say hi,” Shinsou appears out of fucking nowhere and nearly makes Katsuki jump but he doesn’t. He just takes a deep breath and looks over to the doorway where Shinsou’s voice came from, somewhere that leads into what Katsuki presumes is the kitchen. Katsuki follows his eyeline to see him looking at Izuku looking at a cat, whcih Katsuki is now aware of. It’s a cute little thing, a brown tabby peeking out from underneath the coffee table in the living room, “Her name is Ivy, she’s pretty wary of people but she won’t run away from you and,” He adds on, “she will absolutely love you forever if you give her any form of f-o-o-d,” He spells it out, which makes Katsuki think that these cats know english.

Izuku takes that permission and is immediately stepping toward the cat, reaching his hand out slowly and gently toward her for her to sniff. She’s curious and peeks out even more to reach his hand. He lowers himself to the floor, sitting criss cross and allowing her to sniff his hand before pressing her head up into it. Izuku takes that as permission to give her some pets and scratches behind her ears.

“Oh, she likes you,” Kaminari exclaims, plopping himself onto the couch in their living room and watching the scene of Izuku petting Ivy, “you didn’t even have to bribe her. Impressive.”

Izuku just smiles, probably scared to say anything in fear of scaring the cat away if Katsuki knows anything about his boyfriend at all. It doesn’t take very long for Katsuki to stop resisting his urge of also saying hi to the cat, so he slowly walks up behind Izuku and uses his boyfriend’s shoulder to lower himself down, without scaring away Ivy. Ivy trills and tosses her head into Katsuki’s now extended hand, easily accepting the pets that he wants to offer.

“Damn, did you two like plant catnip on you or something before coming here?” Shinsou asks, it’s clearly a joke but there’s something in his voice that makes Katsuki think that he might actually believe that.

Izuku laughs at it, which makes Katsuki smile, “No, I’ve just always been really good with cats!” He exclaims, turning over to look at Shinsou while he talks. Katsuki stays focused on the cat, though. She’s a cute little thing.

After a couple of minutes, Izuku and Katsuki both get up and are led into the kitchen. It smells pretty damn good and Katsuki definitely isn’t mad at it, though he could probably make whatever this is better because he’s him.

Just as Katsuki is wondering it, Izuku asks, “What are you making?”

Shinsou travels back into the kitchen to the stove and grabs a spoon that was set off to the side, “Just spaghetti, nothing too fancy,” He sticks the spoon into a pan and stirs it.

“But!” Kaminari interrupts and somehow has also gotten into the kitchen behind Shinsou, Katsuki has no clue where he even came from, “He makes these really good homemade meatballs and I think I, like, go to heaven every single time I’m graced with the presence of that delicious taste,” He stands directly behind Shinsou and wraps his arms around his front, leaning his head on the man’s shoulder to peer over at the food.

Fucking gay.

“They’re not that good,” Shinsou laughs, switching over to a different pot to stir what seems to be the noodles, “they’re just normal meatballs,” He says, glancing back to Katsuki and Izuku for just a second before paying attention to the stove again, “I just make them myself, that’s all.”

“They’re to die for, trust me,” Kaminari tosses his head back so that his face is upsidedown as he looks at Izuku and Katsuki, still hanging onto Shinsou though, “Toshi’s just bein’ all humble and whatever.”

Shinsou has absolutely no reaction to Kaminari just hanging onto him, using him as stability as he leans backward. He must be used to it or something.

“He’s being dramatic,” Shinsou says without skipping a beat, just casually continuing to cook, unaffected as he’s being pulled backward, “it’s just my dad’s recipe, nothin’ special.”

“Cap cooks?” Izuku asks, sitting down in one of the bar stools next to the counter. Katsuki takes that opportunity to also sit down in one, he takes the one to the right of Izuku.

“Oh, no,” Shinsou laughs as if that’s the funniest thing in the world, “Absolutely not, no. He’d survive off of, like, frozen dinners if not for his husband.”

“He’s married?” Katsuki blurts out the question before he can even think twice about it, which reminds him of his boyfriend. Izuku’s always asking random ass questions without properly thinking about it beforehand.

Katsuki wouldn’t change it for the world, though. It’s one of the many things he loves about the guy, while he himself is always speaking his mind - consequences be damned -, Izuku’s pretty much unable to keep his mouth shut most of the time and Katsuki enjoys listening to him.

“Mhm,” Shinsou hums, finally shrugging off his own husband who starts to pout, “I have to strain the noodles,” He explains with his voice lowered, clearly just speaking to Kaminari but obviously Katsuki can overhear him. That at least gets Kaminari to take a step back (but not before stealing a kiss from Shinsou) while Shinsou grabs the pot and brings his voice back up to his normal level,, “He’s been married for, like, 40 years or something, I lose track. He got married young, way before I even existed.”

“Then they adopted him and lived happily ever after,” Kaminari concluded, latching himself back onto Shinsou the moment he placed the pot of waterless noodles back on the stove and was standing stable again.

Shinsou just nods.

Katsuki finds this whole thing incredibly weird but also... interesting. He likes to know things about people, it’s important to have knowledge of the people around him, the people he works with. A lot of people think he’s all brawn, doesn’t use his time to properly think about anything but anybody who actually knows Katsuki knows that he’s quite intelligent.

Izuku knows.

Izuku’s always known, he’s the first person who was ever able to truly see Katsuki’s intelligence for what it is. Izuku’s always known he was more than just some scary looking guy who knows how to fight and slings insults around at whoever the nearest person is. Izuku could always see right through Katsuki, no matter what and he always always made it a point to let Katsuki know. Izuku’s always slinging around compliments for every insult that Katsuki tosses out but so many of those Izuku compliments are directed toward Katsuki about those better aspects of his personality. He’s known by Izuku.

Katsuki isn’t afraid to say that he was fucking terrified of being known, being vulnerable, but also he’s not afraid to say that it feels so fucking good. He likes Izuku knowing him. He likes knowing Izuku. Maybe it’s just because it’s Izuku. He thinks if it were anybody else, he’d absolutely hate the prospect of a person being able to see through him so easily as if he were presenting it to them on a silver platter. Actually, he knows that if it were anybody else, he’d hate to be seen. He’s always liked to be seen but that was always a physical presence thing, a need to be the best, the greatest, to be known for that. If anybody else were able to see how insecure he really is behind all that tough exterior, he’d vehemently refuse to be seen in such a vulnerable way. He’d lock himself away, if that was what it took.

But this isn’t just anybody else. It’s Izuku. He loves Izuku, that’s, like, the only thing he’s completely for certain of in his mind and, fuck, he wishes he could just show him off to everybody. Tell them all that he managed to get into a relationship with such a perfect man.

Suddenly, there’s a plate of food sliding in front o fhim and he realizes that he hasn’t been payin attention to any of teh conversation. Izuku’s standing up, next to him and places a hand on his shoulder, “You okay Kacchan?”

Katsuki nods out of instinct and - apparently they’re going to sit down at the table now that dinner is done - grabs his plate and watches for a moment as Kaminari and Shinsou are getting settled down at the table, “I think we should just tell them,” he whispers to Izuku, not having to clarify what he’s referring to because he knows Izuku knows.

Izuku seems shocked, “Are you sure? Don’t you still want to keep it private?”

“I mean, it’ll definitely stop their staring. Plus, we’ll have to tell Captain soon anyway and it’s just a matter of time until everybody figures out with the way we act,” Katsuki notes, making what he thinks to be some pretty logical points, “besides, I don’t want to hide.”

Izuku smiles, “Neither do I,” they took their few days of keeping it all to themselves, anyway. They have it figured out.

They always have, to be honest. Well, at least Katsuki thinks so. Nothing much has really even changed since they got into a relationship, they’re pretty much the same as they were but with less walking on eggshells around each other, afraid that the other will find out about their feelings and hate them forever.

Plus, now they get to kiss.

So, it’s decided.

The first people they’re telling about their relationship are Shinsou and Kaminari, of all people. The very same people who have been weirdly staring at them since they arrived at the station will be the first people to know that he and Izuku are in a relationship.

The both of them walk over to the table, it’s a small thing, which makes sense considering that only Kaminari and Shinsou live here. They take the only two seats left and immediately Kaminari darts talking, “Okay look, we just wanna say that we’re really sorry for staring.”

“Our reasons were a bit weird,” Shinsou admits, seeming fairly sorry, “we shouldn’t have stared.”

“And we hope that this dinner makes up for it and helps you know how sorry we are!”

“It’s fine,” Izuku shakes his head profusely, a smile on his face. One of those really bright, damn near blinding ones. Katsuki loves those smiles. “We were just a bit uncomfortable by it and wanted to ask you both to stop, we didn’t need all of this,” He gestured to the whole dinenr, “but we do appreciate it.”

“Plus, you guys are right,” Katsuki slips into the conversation casually before shoving a bite of the spaghetti into his mouth.

“Wait,” Shinsou looks between the two of them, “you guys are in a relationship?”

“WHAT?” Kaminari screams, standing up from his seat, “You guys lied?” He gasps incredulously, completely dramatic.

“Not really,” Izuku is quick to defend themselves, “we weren’t together when you guys originally asked, we, uh, kinda got together that night?”

Katsuki nods.

“Well, damn,” Shinsou says, “I mean I could tell something was there but after you guys said you were just friends, I kind of assumed you were both incredibly dumb.”

“Well that’s rude,” Izuku huffs and takes an angry bite of his spaghetti, to which everyone starts laughing.

The rest of the dinner goes by pretty quickly and it’s their very next shift that they decide they need to tell their captain about their relationship because, y’know, they can’t keep it a secret for forever. They go into his office together at the start of their next shift and Aizawa just looks up at them and then opens his drawer, pulling out some paperwork, and handing it over.

They look down at the papers in his hand to realize that they’re the exact papers they need to fill out due to them being in a relationship.

Well, they can’t really say weren’t expecting this. Aizawa did sort of figure them out before they even figured themselves out. They also can’t really say that they were the best at being secret because they definitely were not.

Apparently they were extremely obvious by the next words out of Aizawa’s mouth, “You guys are dating, right? Don’t tell me I read this wrong again.”

“No yeah, we are,” Izuku is the one who answers, “we swear it happened after you confronted us for the first time, though. We didn’t lie to you or anything, I promise, we were just not in a relationship then and then after we got into our relationship we wanted to figure it out before telling anyone and-”

“I know you didn’t lie to me,” Aizawa says casually, interrupting him and motioning for them to take the papers and Katsuki does so, “it was incredibly obvious after you got together and I expected you guys to tell me once you were comfortable with it.”

“Really?”

Aizawa nods, “and I thought it was obvious before it happened but,” He shakes his head, “you two are bad at keeping secrets.”

They don’t really say anything after that, just fill out the paperwork in silence and go about their day because that is incredibly awkward. They feel a little bit better after they tell the rest of their station and at least some of the people are shocked. Ochako claims that she had no idea so, like, at least that’s something, right?

Welp, so much for secrets.
