Chapter Text
Gideon awoke with a start looking around and seeing he wasn’t at the tree he slept under last night and was instead inside a tent. He heard gentle breathing and looked down to see Kremy asleep his in his arms sleeping soundly, Gideon realised that everything he thought had happened the previous day wasn’t real and quickly pulled Kremy closer to his chest holding him tight and putting one hand around his thin wrist. Sadly, all of this sudden movement seemed to have woken up Kremy.
“Morning Gid, what’s got you so cuddly.” Kremy tries to remove himself from Gideon’s grasp, only leading to Gideon holding him tighter and putting his face into the crook of Kremy’s neck.
“Come on let go I’ve got to start breakfast you know how you get when you don’t eat.” Kremy tried to persuade him, but it didn’t work.
“I can wait.” Gideon would rather go hungry than have to let Kremy go right now, him not paying attention got Kremy killed even if it was only in his dream he’s not going to let Kremy out of his sights today, that’s his best friend he wouldn’t have anything if it wasn’t for him and he needs to keep him safe.
“Come on we have to get to Goldfog before the end of the day, with the cold season coming in.” With the reminder of the risk to his friend's health due to his cold-blooded nature Gideon slowly let go and remove himself from the position he has ended up in curled around Kremy.
“Good, now would you be a dear and go put away the tent while I go get started on breakfast.” Kremy patted his arm before grabbing his pack and making his way to the campfire, Gideon scrambling to quickly follow behind him. Gideon lit the campfire before running back over to the tent, trying to put it away as speedily as possible not wanting to have Kremy out of his sight for longer than needed.
When he returned to campfire he soon sat down as close to Kremy as he could without getting in his way. Gideon still remembers the last time he accidentally got in the lizardfolks way when he was cooking and made him spill something, Kremy didn’t yell, or give out to him but the quite sigh and disappointed look he had had been given was enough to instantly make Gideon feel guilty. Snapping out of his reminiscences when he realises food is being passed to him and cursing himself for not paying attention, he grabs the plate he had been passed.
“So, what have you made today?” Gideon asked looking down at the food and getting an odd sense of dega vu.
“It’s nothing fancy just some fried eggs and vegetables as you can probably tell which reminds me, we need to grab more ingredients and medical stuff when we get to Goldfog.” Kremy laughed at Gideon’s apparent stupidity.
“Well, I wasn’t sure if it had one of them fancy names you like to give things!” Gideon defended while internally trying not to freak out. This is the same food he ate in his dream last night, it must be a coincidence as Kremy is sat right in front of him alive, laughing at him, breathing, alive there’s no way that could actually have happened.
“I didn’t come up with the name of these things, now shit up and eat your breakfast we’ve got a long road ahead of us.” Kremy dug into his meal and Gideon started to eat his still slightly freaked out about how similar his dream has to reality.
Soon they set off on the road to Goldfog with Gideon insisting on holding on to Kremys pack and sticking firmly to his side the whole time, one hand curled around Kremys wrist. Gideon was on high alert every movement in the trees could be something that could attack Kremy and every loose tree branch is a chance for him to get distracted and leave them open. Soon enough they got to Goldfog the Gideon didn’t mind the crisp Winter air, but it sent a cold chill running through Kremy, the sun having left the sky by now.
“Looks like the markets closed, we’ll have to come back tomorrow morning.” Kremy teeth chattered slightly as he spoke the late start making it even colder and darker by the time they arrived.
“Yeah, come on man I want to get to the inn.” Gideon started pulling them both towards the inn hoping to get them out of the cold quickly.
“Why you looking a drink?” Kremy sent a knowing smirk his way.
“Nah I’m to tired I say we just turn in for the night.” Gideon remembers the scene from the bar in his dream and though it wasn’t real he doesn’t want to chance a repeat.
“You're to tired for a beer, there’s a first time for everything especially considering our late rise this morning.” The look Kremy sent his way made it known that he was aware Gideon was lying but he didn’t question him as they got into the inn and started haggling for a cheaper room. They made their way up to there room on the second floor, and now isn’t this room very familiar, and started setting up for the night when Kremy suddenly started to head towards the door. Gideon quickly jumped up and got in Kremys path.
“Where are you going?” Gideon asked not cowing when faced with one of Kremys annoyed looks.
“I’m heading to go grab some water from the bar I’ll be back up in five minutes at the most.” Kremy tried to get passed Gideon only for him to get in his way again.
“I can go grab it for you.” Gideon offered trying to herd Kremy back to his bed.
“I’m more than capable of getting my own water.” Kremy tried once again to get passed him to which Gideon just picked him up and placed them on his bed.
“Okay I’ll be back with your water in a minute!” Gideon said while running out the door. Truth be told Gideon doesn’t want Kremy down there by himself, how’s Gideon supposed to keep him safe if he’s running off on his own. Gideon walked down to the bar and on his way there got hit on by an eleven woman he feels like he met before to which he just fixes her with the meanest glare he could muster causing her to run away, Gideon kinda feels bad as he doesn’t know what made him react that way but seeing her just made his body fill with hatred. He quickly goes up to the bar and attempts to order a water but there are so many people in line in front of him it takes about five minutes to get served and another three to actually get the water as the bartender is to busy flirting with the woman at the bar. All this time Gideon’s just thankful he got Kremy to stay up in their room who knows what could happen to him down here by himself.
He finally gets Kremys water and heads up to the room as quickly as possible without spilling any water. However, he may as well not have made the effort as he dropped the glass as soon as he sees inside the room. The window on top of his bed had been smashed leaving glass shards all over his bed and he sees a figure he vaguely recognises from one of his and Kremys previous scams escape out the broken window. A feeling of dread washes over him as he watches the person leave dreading the sight he’d see when he turns to look at Kremys bed. The sight is even worse than he imagined Kremys was laying on his stomach a belt wrapped tight around his neck stopping his ability to breath and scream for help, for Gideon, stab wounds covered his back blood slowly trickling out of them. The sheets under his body were soaked in blood and the walls had blood splatters covering them. Gideon quickly rushed over to Kremy and turned him over seeing even deeper stabs on his stomach some of them were jagged clearly having been stabbed multiple times in the one place but not quite in the same place. Worst of all were his eyes Kremys golden eyes always had this spark of mischief in them that if he were into boys like that you could almost say he got lost in at times, but now they stared blankly into a horizon they wouldn’t ever be able to see again.
“No,no,no,no! Come on man get up, GET UP PLEASE I CAN’T LOSE YOU AGAIN PLEASE, please I don’t know what I’ll do without you I’m nothing without you.” Gideon cried and begged until his voice had gone horse, unbuckling the belt from around Kremys neck and holding him like Kremy was made of glass. Gideon could feel Kremys blood running down his clothes from where he held him close, but he knew there was no point in stopping the blood from poring Kremy had no pulse and not a single beautiful breath had been released since he entered the room, it doesn’t matter now if his clothes have blood on them he’s got nobody to impress and he deserves it anyway for not being there in Kremys final moments, he deserves much worse to be honest, he should be the one dead not his best friend, he could have prevented this but he didn’t, if he was quicker or let Kremy go down to get his own water this wouldn’t have happened to him. Gideon wrapped Kremys body in a blanket to make sure he doesn’t get to cold due to his cold-blooded nature, laid down on the bed and held Kremy against him in a pool of Kremys blood. Tomorrow he will go find that fucker and rip him apart for what he did but for now he’ll take as much longer as he can have with Kremy and sleep cuddled up next to him to make sure he’s not cold even in death.
