Chapter Text
It had been a hard day for her, to say the least. Probably even harder for Galinda. No, it was harder. Elphaba couldn't tell her what was going on, because deep in, she didn't really know herself.
She told herself it was because Galinda kept secrets from her, but a part of her knew that wasn't true. But she didn't want that to be what was causing all that space and silence between them. Mostly on Elphaba's behalf, Galinda still couldn't keep her mouth shut.
She liked Galinda's voice, she liked all of her, but she didn't make it any easier for Elphaba or herself. She just wished Galinda would take the hint and spare her this toture.
Elphaba had to force herself to only look at the board and her notebook the entire class, even though she could feel her roomate steal glances at her. If only Galinda would stop, Elphaba was going to snap soon.
Once the class was over, Elphaba took a deep breath before she hurried out of the classroom, avoiding any eye contact with Galinda at all. As soon as she was out that door, she was already thinking of what to do to pass time and, hopefully, pass Galinda. She could find Nessa. Her sister was a big fan of Galinda, but she was her sister, so she wouldn't possibly force them to talk?
Plus, Fiyero already saw them not interact, or, Elphaba not interacting with her 'best friend'. So maybe he already told Boq and Nessa, or maybe he told a few more, or just kept it a secret. Or he might just not have understood what was going on. Thats very Fiyero-like.
But where her sister was was her biggest question right now. She could be in the library, or outside enjoying some fresh air-
Her thoughts got interrupted as she heard footsteps approach her. She begged it wasn't Galinda.
Please dont be Galinda, please dont be Galinda-
"Hey Elphaba!" It was Boq.
Was that worse? Possibly another time, but right now it was perfect.
"Boq" She gave him a warm, but fakeish smile.
"You walked so fast I had to run to get to you." He leaned on the wall next to him to help catch his breath.
She gave a huff. If only he knew why she was in such a hurry.
"Say, have you seen my sister? I've been meaning to talk to her?" Elphaba asked, watching as the red haired boy stopped wheezing for air.
"I think she's outside." He gave her a nervous chuckle combined with a tiny gasp for air.
Bingo.
"Great, thank you Boq, I'll see you around." She turned around to leave, already itching to just be near her sister, or just somebody else.
"Wait!" He quickly caught up to her. "We can walk together, I'm heading for Nessa too!"
"Great." She forced another smile.
He returned the smile, way more giddy than hers. He was dumb, so dumb. Literally anyone could see trough her mask right now, but not him.
She was seriously starting to wonder what her sister saw in him.
So they walked down the hall and out into the garden next to eachother, both greeting people on their way. But Elphaba only said hi to people who said it first so she wouldn't accidentally mess up.
The garden was as majestic as always. Really, she found so much peace there that the place might just be more magical then and Madam Morrible combined.
But even though she found peace in the flowers blooming and the bird chirping, she didn't feel her best. She had been looking forwards to talking with her sister, but with Boq by her side she felt a little less motivated. Not that the boy would stop her from saying what she had came there for, but it was that some of it felt a little personal. But it would come out to the group and most likely school fast anyway, so it didn't matter that much.
"There she is." Boq walked over with Elphaba right behind him. Her sister was right next to a bench, talking to another brunette girl. Elphaba had seen her talk with Nessa before, but that was only just because they had to study together. But her sister had always been better at befriending others. And a part of Elphaba told her that it wasn't only just because of her appearance. Though her colour was a big reason of that.
"Hey Nessie!" Boq called, and Nessa turned her head around a little too fast when she heard his voice. She gave him a wide grin. Elphaba felt her nose scrunch up in disqust. Nessie? Seriously?
"Hey Boq" The other girl chimed in, then whispered something to Nessa's ear. Her sister nodded and shot her a smile as well as the girl walked away. No one wanted to come between her sister and Boq's whole lovey-dovey thing. "Hey Elphaba" Her sister's tone towards her went down a notch. If it wasnt for her smile faltering slightly she wouldn't have caught it.
"Hi Nessa." Elphaba nodded. She was her sister, so she gave her a smile. Nessa tried giving a half-hearted one back.
"Did you have anything to say?" The brunette asked. Elphaba shot a quick look at Boq, who didn't seem to be paying much attention to the sisters chatting. He was looking to his side, probably scouting for something or a pink-loving-someone.
Right, Galinda. Get to the point.
"It's about Galinda."
Boq turned his head around immediately after he heard the blondes name. Great. Just so great.
"What about her?" Nessa asked, and she suddently seemed to notice Elphaba was walking around campus without Galinda next to her for the first time in forever. "Did you do something?"
Harsh. Nessa always thought it was Elphaba's fault first. But she wasn't wrong now, and it phsycically ached in her chest that her sister was actually right most of the time. About her.
Get to the point.
"Yes"
Elphaba internally slapped herself. That was all she could press out? That barely answered anything, she could see that there were more questions by the way Nessa was looking at her. "I started ignoring her but she hasn't stopped trying to talk to me yet."
"Well, if it helps you've come a long way. She's not right next to you anymore." Her sisteer was quick with her words, maybe a little too quick for her own taste. Boq's eyes were full of shock.
"But seriously, ignoring Galinda? Why would you do that, she's your nicest friend!" Nessa threw her hands up, clearly deeply dissapointed in her sister.
"Has she done anything?" Boq asked. It actually surprised Elphaba that he was the one that asked that. Was he questioning the girl he was head over heels for?
"Kind of. I feel like she's hiding something important from me but I just can't put my finger on what it is."
Nessa sighed. "And why do you think she's hiding something from you?"
"At times she will talk to me with actual emotion behind her eyes, but then she will just snap into- normal Galinda." Nessa and Boq both looked confused. Elphaba groaned. "Forget it, this is stupid."
"Yes it is, therefore there must be another reason for you stupidity right now." Her sister bit her lip as if trying not to scream at her sister. Elphaba felt like she was being scolded by her dad. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.''
"There was a box that came a couple days ago. She kept telling me it's different things, but I've never seen her pull out those exact stuff shesaid she got from that box. She's really secretive about it." Elphaba explained. She didn't want to go in too much deep detail, since some stuff could remain between her and Galinda.
Nessa put her head in her hands. "So you've been ignoring her because of a box?"
"Well when you put it like that it sounds really stupid-"
"It's because it is!" Nessa groaned. "Seriously Elphaba, you're smart. Like, really smart. You're the smartest person I've ever met."
Elphaba lifted a brow. "Thanks...?"
"But you can be so dumb!"
Elphaba was left quite puzzled. She was supposedly smart but stupid? She understood what her sister meant, but at the same time, it didn't make sense. "Pardon?"
"You know what I mean." Nessa murmured, grabbing Boq's hand as she turned her wheels around. The ginger almost fell face first on the concrete.
So her sister left, annoyed and irked, leaving Elphaba sullen and addled.
She turned around, already feeling all the stares on her. There were times people came to greet her even without her friends- and most importantly, Galinda. But it died out a bit pretty fast about a week after the ozdust. Nowadays, the other students still found ways to whisper and giggle behind her back.
In fact, she heard someone laugh behing her. Elphaba looked over her shoulder, and the second she did the friend of the girl whom had laughed bumped her shoulder, telling her to shut up. The green girl turned back again, and the laughter started immediately.
She sighed, and just as she was thinking about heading back to the library, the bell rung. Class again.
-
Galinda clutched her chest, the place right above her heart. It was pouding so fast, her body felt like it wasn't able to keep up. Her head was aching, her breath got sucked in too fast for her to actually get any air inside inside her lungs and she couldn't feel her legs. That was the side effects of all the blood she'd drank. After a while of drinking it for a while her body can't handle being able being away from blood for too long. And she always found a way to forget about it. Always.
So there she laid, in the restroom, even though she should be in class talking with her friends and not actually paying attention to anything the teacher said.
Galinda's thoughts got interrupted by her breath getting sucked in but she couldn't push it back out again. Her eyes, already wile and insane got even wider. She was suffocating, her chest going up and down though no oxygen passed though her troath. She gripped her chest even tighter, her nails piercing through her dress.
She needed to get up, to drag herself to her dorm. To eat. But if Elphaba was there, maybe because she forgot a book for a class, she would see how weak and fragile she was after Elphaba had started to avoid her. Everything had started going downhill after that.
So there she laid, her whole body shaking, unable to breathe.
The restroom door opened, and from the corner of her eye she could make out someone in wheelchair, then followed by a muffled sound that her ears blurred out. But then a creaking sound came from the wheels, so high pitched that even her stuffed ears could hear it. She cried out as it echoed in her head, feeling like it just exploded. That made her turn on her side, and as her scream faded out her breath got sucked in again. Breathe. She could finally breathe.
Galinda gasped for more air, desperate for more of it.
Then she saw the same wheelchair come back, and next to her was a boy. Nessa and Fiyero. Great. Her possible ex-best friend's sister and her boyfriend was watching her laying on the ground, trembling and gasping for air.
She saw Fiyero's mouth move, probably shouting because Nessa was trying to cover her ear as she closed the door. Her boyfriend carefully lifted her head up, careful not to hurt her. Now she knew he was talking to her, but she still couldn't hear what he was hearing clearly. It was as useful if he was just mouthing the words to her when she could actually pick up on what he said.
Galinda stared blankly at Fiyero, blinking slowly. He turned his head around and told Nessa something, and then she was out of her eyesight. She felt her boyfriends arms tighten around her, one around her waist whilst the other one was carefully cradling the back of her head. If she felt like herself she would have been foolishly giggling, but now she didn't feel anything towards him lifting her. All she could think about was how hungry she was. It felt like all her blood had seeped out of her body and she was left with nothing.
Blood. She needed blood. Her lips must have mouthed the word, because Fiyero tried to put his ear close to her.
Then he dropped her. She braced herself to hit the hard ground floor, but instead her back fell on a soft and fluffy ground. They must have arrived at her dorm, and by the touch that tickled the back of her neck she must be laying on her matress. Fiyero put one of her many pink pillows under her head, hopefully to try to prevent any further gasping happening.
She saw her box with her blood bags, but had to snap back to the picture of the blurry Fiyero right in front of her to not raise any suspicion. Galinda tried to open her mouth, but choked halfway through her first syllable, or actually just her first word. Her eyes shot up again, chest heaving as she panicked whilst trying to breathe in. Nothing. She tried to keep her mouth open, but it only made it worse. Her neck shot up, and she felt like she was going to vomit. But she couldn't, the lack of air kept her from doing so. That was the only possible good thing about choking on nothing but air.
The door opened, and her eyes landed on something green. Moving towards her. Elphaba.
Her hopefully not ex-bestfriend leaned down to her, and from what little Galinda had to go with, she looked worried. Oz, it was great seeing any type of emotion from Elphaba directed towards her. But her thoughts got ripped away to shreds and it felt like she was going to throw up again. And she wish she could, because now it only made it worse. Less air to go off.
Galinda swore it felt like the ground was shaking as Elphaba turned and presumably yelled at Fiyero.
Then, something or someone flipped her over to her side, and just like when she was lying in the restroom, she got in that breath. She coughed, gripping her bed sheet as she tried to come back to her natural self. But once she looked up to find Elphaba facing her with worry consuming her eyes, it felt like a gust of wind stole her oxygen away. Her breath hitched, and Elphaba's gaze became more distressed.
She tried to gently touch Galinda, but for the blonde, it felt like a thousand needles were piercing through her skin. She yelped, trying to distance herself away from the touch, but the movement only hurt more. Elphaba started shooed the others away when Galinda once again begun to shriek, since both Fiyero and Nessa were leaving the room.
She stared wildly at Elphaba, glacing quickly to the others, though they had already left. Her gaze returned to the green girl's, silently pleading her not to leave.
But she got up. Galinda couldn't handle being alone. She would probably accidentally turn herself around on her back and choke again. She needed Elphaba, only Elphaba.
So she grabbed her hand. Galinda bit her lip as to not scream out in pain, but some hissing most likely came out through her gritted teeth.
Elphaba's arm was surprisingly warm. Then her blood must be warm.
Her instincts took over, and she no longer felt like any other normal teenage girl. She felt like a horrendible and hideoteous monster.
But those thoughts were shoved in the back of her mind as she bit down onto Elphaba's arm. She let her fangs seek in, and she felt how her friend tried to escape her grip around her. But it was no use, Galinda wasn't budging even one bit. Her primal part of her brain had taken over, and it was no turning back until her hunger was satisfied.
Her blood felt like a drug. It was intoxicating, she couldn't bring herself to stop. Elphaba's blood was so much different then the ones she would drink from her in bags. They were cold and had that plastic taste in it, but Elphaba's was the full experience. Warm blood with no other taste than iron. And as is that wasn't enough, the smell was swirling up her nose, preventing her from stopping. All she knew is that she needed more. She wanted more. So Galinda pressed down deeper, ignoring the hand on her face as Elphaba tried to push her off. More, she craved more. She wasn't even hungry anymore. All she knew was that her friends blood was all she ever needed.
That was, until she snapped back. She was drinking her friend's life away. She closed her eyes and pushed Elphaba's arm away, throwing herself back, just for Elphaba's safety.
She licked her mouth, but realized how disgusting that was in front of her victim, so she wiped it away from her mouth.
Galinda looked up at her friend, and from the look on her face, smearing her blood around her own face was probably not helping the situation they were in. Elphaba looked horrendified, taking a step back. She looked pale, but at the same time greener like she was going to throw up. "Galinda" she tried to start, but didn't come up with anything other to add for a hot moment. "What was that?"
"I-I don't know" She uttered. But Galinda knew. She had lost control over herself and had put Elphaba in terrible danger. And based off the looked her roomate gave her, she didn't belive her.
"I have to go" Galinda whispered, trembling as she got up on her feet. It was hard standing up, she felt wobbily just being still. But she needed her box. So she went for it tripping and stubbing herself for every step. Once she reached her box Elphaba was already gone. The blonde stared at the floor, tears forming in her eyes. No, she needed to get out of her dorm out of her school.
She quickly looked at the mirror and saw how Elphaba's blood had coated her skin. She desperately rubbed it off, making sure not one tiny drop was left on her face.
"Oz, please help me." Galinda begged as she stumbled her way out of the room.
