Chapter Text
Time flew by quickly, and soon enough, Orange had tired herself out from her reckless assault on Yellow, resulting in her taking a break. Yellow walked out of her room unscathed and proud to have assisted her properly, seeing as she held her head up much higher than she had prior to their training session. It only made sense that this boosted his spirits, considering his cowboy dreams. Any good sheriff would help a citizen in need.
Actually, thinking about it, Yellow realized he’d been helping out almost everyone today. Even if he wasn’t necessarily helping in particular at times, each task he had given to himself or received from another he did his best to follow through with. The satisfaction was mutual; his friends got what they wanted, and Yellow got one step closer to his goal. He had forgotten to ask Orange if there was a reason for all of it, except maybe he didn’t need one. He hadn’t felt this good about himself in a while!
He trotted through the halls of the castle with pep in his step, daydreaming about what be could possibly do next. Perhaps he’d check back in with Green at the café and see if they needed more dishes washed? Or he could find his sweet Blue and dance with him surrounded by his beautyful flowers. There was so much potential still throughout the day, and he was unable to contain his eagerness.
Unfortunately, he was taken out of his thoughts after bumping into something.
Stumbling slightly, Yellow backed up and repositioned his hat with a shy smile. “Sorry ‘bout that, I wasn’t lookin’ where I was goin’!”
“Hey, it’s no problem!” a familiar chipper voice responded.
Yellow looked at the source, and there stood Flowery, waving at him with his usual positive energy.
Flowery, being considered the leader of the seven, was known for being responsible and brotherly towards his dear friends. Was he a tiny bit of a jerk at times? Sure, but that didn’t change how much he cared for everyone. He wanted what was best for them, and would do almost anything asked of him with a simple ‘Leaf it to me!’ and a thumbs up. His charisma knew no bounds, something that Yellow could easily remember him by.
“By the way,” Flowery continued. “you seem a bit tired. Having a busy day?”
“Uhh, I don’ think so,” Yellow answered as he scratched the back of his head.
Flowery chuckled, crossing his arms. “I’ve seen you running around with all the others, you know. I can tell you’ve been doing a lot the last couple hours.”
“Eh, it ain’t too much for me!”
“You sure you don’t need a break?” Flowery placed a hand on Yellow’s shoulder. “We can hang out for a bit if you want. Like, just taking it easy.”
Yellow looked at the ground as he thought about it. It hadn’t taken too much energy to be around his friends, although he was still slightly worn out for some reason. While he wanted to do more, some relaxation wouldn’t hurt.
“That don’ sound so bad! I’m in!”
“Great! Come with me.”
Flowery gestured for Yellow to follow him, and the two walked off together into the garden.
Dark waters flowed slowly and gracefully around the two. Their wooden boat gently rocked on the surface, staying still as the ripples brushed past it. Yellow had his hands on the edges, his eyes fixated on every wave and pink petal that floated along. He couldn’t recall ever seeing water so beautiful, despite having seen the water in his punishment room more times than he could count.
Meanwhile, Flowery sat on the other end of the boat, one arm keeping his fishing rod in the water and the other rested behind his head. He let out a breath and crossed his legs, looking towards Yellow. “It’s cool out here, isn’t it?
Yellow lifted his head up. “It sure is purdy!” He rotated to face Flowery and sat down. “So, what did ya take me here t’do again?”
“We’re going fishing!” Flowery stated.
“Fishin’? But we’s humans, not fish!”
“We’re not the ones being fished.” Flowery held back a short laugh.
Yellow started blankly. “…So why’s it called fishin’ then—”
The boat jerked in Flowery’s direction as Yellow tried to ask his question. The water in front of Flowery swished and splashed rapidly.
“Sweet mini peppers!” Flowery yelled, pulling at his fishing rod and fighting whatever it was taking the bait. Yellow watched silently with wide eyes, new questions beginning to form in his mind.
Suddenly, Flowery yanked at the rod with a powerful swing, and the string flung right into the boat, bringing some of the water along with it. At the very end of the string, there lay a tin star.
“Would you look at that!” Flowery hummed, plucking the star off the string and offering it to Yellow. “Perfect for a cowboy!”
Though he was still very confused, he’d be a criminell to refuse such a gift. He took it from Flowery’s hand and admired it in his own hands. “Gee, thanks, Flowery! Ya know me too well!”
“I mean, it doesn’t really take a genius to know you’re into cowboy things,” Flowery spoke to himself, stretching his arms.
‘Oh my tin stars’ was a common phrase that Yellow would say, only one of many special little things only he ever said. He had always wanted a real tin stars to add to his list of proof he was a cowboy, and now that he had the shiny metal star, he truly did feel like a real one.
He placed the star in his pocket and leaned his back against the wall of the boat, staring into the darkness above with a content smile. Cherry blossoms adorned it in a beautiful display, lowering delicately as a mysterious wind blew them away. The wind felt soothing on his face. It had a cool and refreshing sensation. He could fall into a deep slumber from such a feeling.
“You awake?” Flowery called to him, snapping him out of his peaceful state.
“Ah— Yessir!” he affirmed. He sat up, rubbing his eye. “Didja need somethin’?”
Flowery’s expression softened. “Do you mind if I say something?”
“Go ahead!”
“Well…” He grinned. “Thanks for all you’ve done today.”
Yellow raised his eyebrows. “Huh?”
“You’ve put a lot of effort into taking care of the rest of the flowers. I know they can be a lot to handle, especially all in the span of one afternoon, but you’re doing excellently. You’re a real compassionate person. Heh, it’s so… human!”
Yellow gasped. “Human?!”
“Yeah! You’re one good human, Yellow!” Flowery pat his shoulder again.
“I-I am? Oh, that’s amazin’ to hear!!” He kicked his feet im excitement, causing Flowery to once again chuckle.
“Glad that made you so happy.”
Yellow and Flowery didn’t talk too much due to the fact that they had their own separate priorities, but they did have a lot in common——especially the fact they both held a deep desire to protect. A desire to keep the people around them safe and comfortable. A desire to preserve such a state for them as much as possible. They were both well aware of that shared desire, and that’s what really brought them together. What brought them to this spot.
The rest of the boat ride went smoothly, with not a lot of talking, but instead, quietly enjoying the scenery.
And, for Yellow, enjoying his title of ‘one good human’ too.
