Chapter Text
In hindsight it is not so bad working the weekend
It's not like she's got anything better to do since Yolanda wants nothing to do with her and Dennis had fled to the farm the second he could leave. Sure it's a holiday weekend and one of the busiest at that, sure the weather is nice but she would rather be in the hospital than being cooked alive in her and Huckleberries apartment all alone where she would wallow in self pity. At least the hospital has functioning AC which the apartment doesn't.
So far they have had a bunch of heat exhaustion cases, a bunch of grill related cases and a handful of injuries caused by fireworks.
Between the holiday specific patients it's been the usual car accidents, heart attacks, broken bones and stomach aches and everything in between.
She's just tended to a twelve year old's broken wrist and is passing the charge station when she hears the emergency phone ring and Dana picking up. She sits down by the computer, intending to get at least a couple of minutes of charting done before she gets going again. She can hear Dana hum next to her as she logs into the system but with Dr Al looming nearby she focuses on getting on with her typing so she can cross the patient off and move on to the next.
“We've got a heat stroke victim being brought in by helicopter,” Dana says as she hangs up. “ETA 7 minutes!”
A year ago Trinity would be buzzing with excitement to get a more thrilling and challenging case than ordinary heat exhaustion but now she barely looks up from the computer. She's slowly working through the large pile of charts. It's a slow, tedious and uninspiring task but she's desperate to catch up.
If only to keep Dr Al off her back and to not piss her off further. Now that Robby is gone for three months she needs to get on the new attending's good side. Or at least enough for Dr Al to tolerate Who knows if Robby will even come back at all. This might be her new future for the rest of her residency.
“Samira, I want you and Ogilvie on the helipad to meet them,” Dr Al says. “Dana make sure the trauma room is prepped.”
Trinity wonders if her name will be called but isn't surprised when it isn't.
-
When the elevator opens and gurney is rolled into the ED Trinity is on her way across the corridor to her next patient. She briefly looks their way, her curiosity getting the better of her. Dr Al is already walking towards them with McKay at her heels but it is not them that causes Trinity to react.
It's the petite young woman walking along the gurney that catches her attention. The very familiar blond woman.
Amy! Huckleberry’s Amy.
Trinity stares at her and takes in her tear stricken face before her eyes drift toward the person lying on the gurney. In the back of her mind she already knows but the second they land on him it's all confirmed. She would recognise him anywhere. Even if all she can see is the curls of his hair. Her brain takes another second to connect the dots properly but when it does she's running towards the moving gurney.
“Dennis?” She says.
She catches up with them before they can make it into the trauma bay and half way through the EMT:s hand off but everything blurs together as she looks at his face.
“Temperature 102,9….106,7…HR 152…BP 94/56…GCS 10…”
He looks horrible. His skin is bright red and dry. His breaths are rapid and shallow underneath the large oxygen mask that is covering his mouth and nose. His blue eyes are open but she would almost prefer they weren't because they aren't seeing and he isn't there with them. They are glazed over in confusion and he's agitated, panicked and delirious, faint sounds coming out of his mouth and his hands weakly trying to fight theirs off.
“No, no, no,” he pleads. “Don't! Leave…me…alone…”
“Easy, Dennis!” McKay says. “You are safe!”
Trinity finds herself unable to speak.
They have already cut off most of his clothes and started cooling him down. There's already an IV in his arm.
She can only take in fractions of what they are saying.
Around her everyone is working frantically but she's just staring uselessly. She hears Dr Al:s voice but she can't focus on what she's saying either.
They are cutting off the rest of his clothes leaving him naked and exposed. They replace the cooling packs for new ones and Perlah quickly inserts another IV into his arm. Dennis whimpers and his head is moving weakly. His arms are being held down to keep them from moving.
The heart rate monitor is beeping rapidly and she's noticing it in a way she's never done before. It seems louder, faster, more urgent. She can't let it become background notice like she does in a normal trauma case.
Next to her Amy sobs.
“Is he going to be okay?” She cries.
It's enough to throw Trinity out of her frozen state and spring her into action but before she had a chance to step into help and do something more useful than just stare stupidly she's stopped.
“You can't treat him!”
Dr Al's voice is kind but firm and so is the hand that lands on Trinity's arm that she's quick to swat away. She can help him! She has to help him!
“Dr Santos!”
Dr Al gives her a kind and sympathetic smile but she's standing in her way.
“You need to step away from him. You are his friend and you can't be treating him. You know it's against protocol!”
Protocol. As if protocol matters right now. As if any of them should give a flying fuck about policies and protocols.
“Even if it wasn't, I would not let you treat him,” her attendant says firmly. “It won't be in his best interest, nor yours. You can stay in the room but if you interfere I'll have to make you leave.”
And Trinity wants to protest and put on a fight but instead she uselessly lets herself be ushered to the side. Away from him and his scared pleas. She's not even allowed to hold his hand.
And once more everything blurs together. The sounds and the voices. Amy is frantic next to her but Trinity won't let her cling to her arm in comfort. She leaves the young woman standing there with her arms wrapped around herself and with tears streaming down her face.
It's like she's watching herself watch him. It's like it's a movie or a dream. A really bad one. It can't be real. It can't be her friend lying there with their co-workers working to save him. And this can't be the last time she sees him.
She wasn't even nice to him the last time she saw him, she thinks. She wasn't even a little bit kind to him during their last shift together. Instead she was rude and took out her bad mood on him. And he let her. She couldn't even confess to him that she likes living with him. That living with him has brought her safety. That it might be the best thing that has happened to her in a long time. That she feels safer around him than around any other person.
“What is happening?’ What's wrong with him?” Amy cries loudly.
In front of them Dennis' body starts jerking violently.
“He's seizing!” McKay shouts.
-
She's not allowed to stay after that. Neither is Amy.
The two of them are ushered out of the room quickly.
Dennis is still seizing when the doors to the trauma room closes behind them again. His body jerks unnaturally, the spasms painful and violent.
Amy is crying so loudly she's hyperventilating and Dana is quick to wrap her arms around her shoulders.
“Why is he seizing?” What's wrong with him?” Amy cries, covering her mouth with her hands. “Is he going to be okay?”
“Does he look okay to you? Trinity spits. “His brain is literally frying from overheating. His temperature is so high his organs are failing. He's practically boiling from within. That's what's wrong with him.”
Dana looks at her, her arms still around Any who is sobbing even louder now. Trinity doesn't wait for the charge nurse to scold her. She doesn't wait for anything. She lets her feet carry her towards the ambulance bay.
-
The heat hits her with a substantial amount of force as she steps through the doors and she finds herself crouching on the ground, hands behind her head, her breaths quick and ragged.
Her heart is jolting inside her chest and she presses a hand to it and almost gags. She stays like that for a minute, hunched over before she stands up again on shaky legs. Her whole body is shaking and despite the heat she feels chilled with a cold sweat.
The door opens behind her and she doesn't have to turn around to know it's Dana. She can recognise the way the older woman clears her throat and quickly wipes the tears from her face as she turns around.
Dana smiles slightly but the furrow between her eyebrows is deep and serious.
“Where’s Amy?” Trinity asks, half to the ground.
“Emma is taking care of her,” Dana says.
“Are you here to tell me off?” Trinity says defensively and crosses her arms in front of her, shoulders tense and jaw tight.
“Tell you off?” Dana says, shaking her head. “I'm here to check on you, kid!”
“Well I'm fine!” Trinity says and presses her teeth together even tighter. “You can go inside. I'll be there in a minute!”
Dana shakes her head again.
“You aren't fooling anyone,” she says. “Wanna try again?”
When she doesn't reply Dana sighs.
“The seizure lasted less than two minutes. His temperature is coming down as well and he's stabilizing. We will move him to the ICU shortly to monitor his vitals and organs. Dr Al Hashimi or Samira can probably give you more details. He's resting now.”
“I have patients,” Trinity says.
“Forget about your patients,” Dana sighs. “You are in no condition to treat anyone right now. We will sort out your patients.”
She's right of course. Trinity has not stopped trembling despite how hot it is outside.
“Go be with him,” Dana says kindly.
-
When Trinity returns to the trauma bay Amy is already inside and she's holding Dennis' hand in hers.
Dr Al is talking to her in soft words while McKay and Perlah are standing on the other side of the bed. Mohan is standing by the computer. The frantic activity around the bed has been replaced by measured and purposeful movements, less hectic and fast paced by still laced with urgency and seriousness.
She feels anger burn in her as she looks over at Amy. Anger at Dr Al's coddling of her, anger at how delicately she's being treated. Anger at how weak and frail she's being. Anger at her holding Dennis' hand as if she knows Dennis better than Trinity does. As if she has more right to hold his hand than anyone else.
Trinity doesn't say anything to either of them as she enters the room. McKay gives her a brief smile before she walks over to Samira, leaving the space next to Perlah empty.
Dennis is lying on his side, his eyes closed in sleep. He looks peaceful compared to how delirious and confused he was when he was brought in but his silence and stillness is still overwhelming. The oxygen mask is still covering his mouth and nose but his breaths have slowed down significantly and his chest is now rising and falling calmly. A thin blanket covers his body and the cooling packs have been removed since his body has come down to acceptable temperatures. Trinity gives herself a minute to check his vitals on the monitor above the bed and to take in every wire and tube connected to his body. There's a pulse oximeter clipped to one finger and his saturation is holding steady. The blood pressure cuff around his right arm inflates automatically for a new reading and Perlah looks up from what she's doing and takes note of the numbers on the screen.
It feels like there's no room next to Amy and Dr Al so she picks the other side. The curls at the nape of his neck are full of dried down sweat and stuck to his skin. Perlah brushes lightly against her arm as she moves around her but she doesn't say anything else. She gives Dennis shoulder a light squeeze though before she leaves.
Trinity is unable to do the same. She bites down on her lip while fiddling with the corner of the blanket that is draped over him. Her fingers are still shaking.
“We are going to monitor him in the ICU for the next couple of days,” Dr Al says, speaking to Amy in a soft voice.
“Our main concerns are kidney injury, that means damage to the kidneys. So we are going to keep a close eye on them as well as muscle breakdown. He's already showing signs of that which is to be expected but we need to monitor it and treat it. Those two are our main concerns and unfortunately they go hand in hand. We are also going to monitor his liver and heart closely to make sure the heat stroke has not caused any damage.”
“And if he has?” Amy hiccups. “If he has d-d-damage to his h-heart or k-k-kidneys? Or something else? What if his brain is damaged?”
“Then we'll cross the bridge when we have to,” Dr Al says. “I assure you he is in very good hands. Some of these complications can take 12-48 hours to develop though, which is why is going to be transferred into the ICU where he can be monitored closely around the clock and get the best care possible.”
Amy nods and looks down.
“Like Teddy,” she whispers to herself.
Then she looks at Dr Al again.
“Thank you!” She says and wipes at her face with her free hand.
Dr Al squeezed her arm.
“Don't hesitate to ask if there's anything you are wondering about. We are here to help!” she says.
Then she looks at Trinity with a sympathetic look on her face. It's probably the most sympathetic she's ever looked with regards to Trinity but Trinity can't stand that kind of kindness right now. It's too overwhelming, making her too vulnerable and she can't afford fo be vulnerable right now.
“Dr Santos, is there anything I can do for you?”
Turn back time, she thinks. Turn back time and convince Dennis to spend the weekend at home instead. Turn back time and tell him how much she means to him and how much she needs him.
But there's nothing anyone can do but wait. Wait for worsening rhabdomyolysis, acute kidney injury, liver failure or DIC. Or brain damage from seizures and high body temperature.
She shakes her head.
-
Eventually the room empties out and Trinity waits until the door closes behind Perlah before she speaks.
“What happened?” She asks and crosses her arms. “Today. What the hell happened?”
“I…what?” Amy says.
She's still holding Dennis hand and Trinity glares at it angrily.
“People don't just get heatstroke,” Trinity says accusingly. “Especially not young healthy people. How did this happen.”
“He was working outside. It was really hot. I think maybe he didn't drink enough water? Sometimes he forgets about time and Theo was being extra fussy today so I don't know how much time passed. I was inside taking care of him and-.”
“So you thought it was fine to let him work on his own for hours? Under the blazing sun?” Trinity exclaims.
“What?” Amy cries. “Of course not. I did check on him. Asked him to come in for food. He said he was fine.”
Trinity crosses her arms again but nods for her to continue.
“I think he was on his way inside but then he was called to help our neighbours. Two of their youngest calves escaped and everything was a bit chaotic. It took some time to get them inside and when came back he collapsed. He was unconscious and in a really bad way so I called for help and the neighbours came over and we called an ambulance and moved him into the shade. They told us to try to cool him down so we did. And then he seized! He was just shaking uncontrollably.”
She's crying again.
“I'm so sorry,” she sobs. “It's all my fault!”
Part of Trinity wants to tell her it is her fault. It is so easy to put the blame on Amy and turn her own anguish to anger instead.
“I'm so sorry,” Amy says, quieter this time. As if she's speaking to Dennis instead.
“I'm sorry,” she repeats. “I'm so sorry.”
Trinity looks at her in silence. She looks awful. Her hair is messy and her eyes red and swollen. She's squeezing Dennis hand tightly but the other is fiddling nervously, fingers moving together and her shoulders are visibly tense.
Her husband died in this hospital, Trinity thinks. He might have been treated in this very room, Trinity doesn't remember. Dennis would remember though she thinks. Dennis always remembers stuff like that.
Regardless, it must be pretty horrible to be back in the very place where she lost the love of her life.
Yet she's here for Dennis. Yet she's strong enough to be here now, despite how scary and triggering it must be for her.
Amy keeps looking down while she cries silently but Trinity does nothing to offer her any comfort. She may not have it in her to blame the other woman for what happened but she also doesn't have any comfort to offer. She can barely keep it together herself.
-
They take Dennis up to the ICU a while later. Both Trinity and Amy walk along the gurney, Amy speaking softly to him the entire time.
“You are okay,” she hushes as his head moves slightly on the pillow and his lashes flutter briefly, an anxious sound coming out of his mouth. “They are looking after you. You are safe.”
Trinity looks on in silence as Dennis calms down again and drifts off to sleep.
Once he is settled into the ICU room, Amy is quick to take a seat next to the bed and equally quick to grab hold of his hand again. Trinity notices the wedding band still on her finger as she looks at their hands with envy.
Because that's part of the problem isn't it? She's not mad at Amy for being the reason Dennis is in the hospital. For using him and taking advantage of his kindness.
She envies Amy for the time she gets to spend with Dennis. And she envies how easily Amy can reach out to touch him.
She wants to touch him so badly but something is stopping her. Just like it's stopping her from speaking to him. Guilt and years of suppressing her feelings to protect herself and now she can't even reach out and hold his hand despite how sick he is. She can't comfort him. She can't even tell him it's going to be okay. Or that she cares about him.
She's too useless and emotionally stunted to be there for him when he needs her. But Amy isn't. Whatever her and Huckleberry are she's here for him, she's comforting him. She doesn't let her own baggage and shortcomings rend her of her ability to feel empathy and be kind.
“He looks better,” Amy says quietly.
Trinity sighs.
To an untrained eye he probably does. Especially compared to how awful he was when he was brought in but even if his temperature has come down the danger is far from over.
“He’s really not!”
Amy looks up at her.
“He's still very ill,” Trinity clarifies. “Some complications take some time to develop. It's too early to know anything.”
“The other doctor said something about his kidneys and muscle damage?” Amy asks.
“They are the two main concerns right now, yeah!” Trinity nods, her eyes traveling across his body.
“When the body overheats it can lead to muscle cells starting to break down and they release a protein into the blood stream. His lab results show muscle damage already and that can continue to worsen over time. It also puts additional strain on his kidneys. And his kidneys are already weakened by his dehydration and low blood pressure and now they have to work overtime to deal with the substances in his blood from his muscles breaking down. If they can't handle it they can begin shutting down and stop working which is called acute kidney injury. They are giving him fluids and monitoring his urine output to keep an eye on them. And if not he may have to go on dialysis which is a machine that basically clears the blood outside of the body and takes over that function so that the kidneys can heal.”
But that's not all though, right?” Amy says and looks down at Dennis while pressing her lips into a thin line.
Trinity shakes her head and tiredly explains the rest of it; the risks of liver failure, brain damage, coagulopathy and damage to his heart and lungs. She doesn't have it in her to sugar coat it but she does her best to explain it in a way that Amy understands because she also doesn't have it in her to answer a bunch of follow up questions.
“We'll know more in a few days,” she concludes. “He'll probably have to stay in the ICU for at least 48 hours. Longer in the hospital. But he's still really sick.”
Amy is crying again and tears are streaming down her face. She clasps Dennis and tightly in hers and her other hand brushes through his hair.
“You have to be okay!’ she speaks quietly. “You have to fight, Dennis. Please be okay!”
It's all Trinity wants to tell him and she wants to pretend that if Amy wasn't here right now she would tell him and that she would hold his hand.
But she couldn't even tell him she likes living with when he teased her about it two days ago.
She adjusts his blanket and drapes it around his torso, pretends to check on the nasal cannula in his nose and for a second her fingers brush against his cheek as she gently adjusts it and tucks it behind his ear.
It's the closest to touch she comes and it feels like a cop out.
“I don't know what I would have done without him,” Amy says thickly.
Her hand is now resting lightly on his arm, her fingers tracing his skin delicately.
“He's been doing so much for me and Theo since Teddy died.”
She smiles slightly.
“He's one of the kindest, most compassionate persons I know.”
Trinity nods tiredly.
“I know you think I'm using him.” Amy says much to Trinity's surprise.
And what is Trinity supposed to say? She does think that Amy is using him. To some extent at least. Unintentionally probably. But still.
“I'd never want to take advantage of him,” Amy says. “I would never!”
“You know you need to stop relying on him right?” Trinity says.
It takes a while for Amy to answer and in the meantime she looks at Dennis with a sad smile on her face.
“I know,” she says.
“He's going to bending himself over backwards for you and everyone else. He's going to burn himself to the ground again and again. He wants to help everyone. He is stupid and naive and people do take advantage of that. And I can't let that happen.”
“I know,” Amy says. “You are a good friend to him.’
Trinity snorts and rolls her eyes.
“No you are,” Amy insists. “You look out for him. You have his best interest at heart…”
She pauses, her hand moving down Dennis arm until it reaches his hand. She picks it up like it is the most natural thing in the world.
“But so do I,” she says. “You probably don't believe me. But I would never do anything to use him or hurt him on purpose. Never!”
“He could get into a lot of trouble if people found out about the two of you…” Trinity says.
“I know…” Amy says.
“Do you?” Trinity asks.
‘I know you think I'm stupid because I'm a farm girl who married her high school sweetheart but I'm not. Of course I understand. I know. It's just been really hard without Teddy. And Dennis has helped. He's easy to talk to. And he's kind. And he's my…friend…”
“Right!”
“And if you or anyone else thinks he's taking advantage of me he isn't! He's never done or said anything. He's never asked for anything in return. He's just been there for me in ways my family has not been able to.”
Trinity watches his face in silence, thinking back to the conversation she has with Dennis about this two days ago.
“He was so kind even when me and Teddy first arrived here. And he was so encouraging and hopeful. At least he gave me hope, you know. And when Teddy died he checked in on me. He was there for me. And then he offered to help around the farm. They want me to sell and it's probably for the best but I'm not ready yet. It was mine and Teddy's dream. We were meant to live there forever, until we grew old and our children hopefully took over. Now Theo will grow up without his dad and I'm a widow at 25…”
She wipes her cheek as a few tears fall down her face.
“It's just hard,” she says. “And Dennis has helped me. With everything. But I do know the time will come where I need to do it without his help. And I'm trying to prepare myself for that. I am.”
“That's good!” Trinity says. “Because whatever the two of you have, it's inappropriate. He was one of your husband's doctors. Even if he was just a med student it's still highly frowned upon. Even if you don't think he's taking advantage of you it's-”
“Inappropriate!” Amy fills in and looks down at Dennis sleeping face. “So you've said.”
“I don't want him to get into trouble!” Trinity sighs. “It's nothing personal. If anything I can see how much joy going to the farm brings him. He gets homesick sometimes and helping you makes him happy. And he likes feeling useful. But he's going to end up overworking himself. It's already gotten him almost killed.”
She ignores the way Amy flinches and looks at Dennis' sleeping form, nodding slightly towards all the wires and tubes around him to prove her point even if it's completely unnecessary by the guilty and devastated look on Amy's face.
“He's a nice person, he's compassionate but he's also naive. He wants to be there for you because that's how he is as a person but he doesn't realise that it's problematic.”
“I don't think he's naive!” Amy protests.
“Well regardless, I think it's a good idea for you to find someone else to lean on. For the both of you. Before you end up unintentionally hurting each other…or yourselves.”
Amy nods and dries her cheeks with the back of her hand.
For a while they sit next to each other in silence. Unsurprisingly it is Amy who breaks the silence a few minutes later.
“How is he as a roommate?” She asks curiously.
Her question takes Trinity by surprise.
“I'd think you'd know better than me by now,” she shrugs. “He spends more time at the farm than he does at home.”
Amy smiles.
“He's not my roommate though,” she says. “He's a guest when he's visiting me at the farm. I'm sure he's different when he's in his own home.”
“He's really messy, and leaves clothes across the apartment. He forgets to clean up in the kitchen after himself and he steals my food. He has a weird obsession with avocados. He uses up all the hot water and he plays loud funk music,” Trinity says.
“And he's super slow in the mornings. And he never minds his own business. And he talks too much during movies.”
“He really does,” Amy smiles. “Never heard someone talk so much during a movie. Or asked so many questions.”
Trinity looks away and swallows.
“He…” she starts, her voice thickening. “He's really kind too…”
She blinks and briefly looks at his unconscious face before she has to look down again.
“He looks out for me. And he makes me feel safe,” she says and by now her voice is barely above a whisper.
“That's nice,” Amy says quietly.
Trinity gives a silent nod and looks away again and once again the silence falls around them.
Then Amy looks down at her phone with a small sigh.
“I need to make a call to my mother to make sure everything is okay with Theo. I left him with our neighbour and then my mother took him. I need to have someone come pick me up too.”
She gives Dennis hand a brief squeeze before standing up and Trinity watches her leave, the door closing behind her.
She lets out a sigh of relief and a breath she's been holding for hours. This is the first time she's been alone with Dennis since Friday.
“Hi…” she croaks faintly but she can't bring herself to say anything else. Her voice won't carry her.
She just looks at him in silence as she waits for her voice to get steadier. For the lump in her throat to go away.
It doesn't. It never goes away. Instead it builds and builds.
She reaches out and smooths over the blanket over his still body once again, her hand lingering a second or so longer but so feathery light he probably can't feel it in his sleep.
Another cop out. Yet another example of what a coward she is. How broken and ruined she is.
She wants to hold his hand. She wants to bring him into his arms and hold him tightly. She wants to hug him. She wants to tell him how much he means to her. And that she's sorry. For taking him for granted and for not realising how much he means to her before it was almost too late.
She wants to open up to him. Tell him why she's so messed up and difficult. She wants to thank him for being so patient and kind to her even when she never returns the favour. She wants to thank him for not giving up on her when she pushes him away. For showing concern, for seeing her struggles even when she tries to hide them.
She wants him to know that she appreciates him and that she needs him.
She needs him more than he needs her and that is scary. It's terrifying knowing that the time will come when he doesn't want or need her. Neither for her apartment nor for her friendship.
The day will come when she will be on her own again and the apartment will once again be empty and quiet and allow her darkest thoughts to fester and grow.
And the truth is she's not done anything to stop it. She's not done anything to deserve his kindness and patience. She has just kept pushing him away and kept taking out her anger on him. She had even been mad at him for catching a difficult medical emergency and saving a person's life and instead of celebrating with him and telling him she was proud of him, she had punished him for it.
So when he inevitably leaves, like everyone else has, who's fault will it be if not her own?
The door opens again and Trinity quickly straightens in the chair before she realises it's not Amy returning.
Instead it's Robby who enters the room.
“Hey…” he says somberly and glances at Dennis on the bed with a concerned look on his face.
He looks tired, exhausted even.
“What are you doing here? I thought you were in your motorcycle thing?” Trinity asks in confusion.
“I never left,” Robby says. “Not yet…Dana texted me…”
He gestures towards Dennis again with the same sad look on his face.
Trinity nods silently and presses her lips tightly together.
She watches as Robby takes a seat in the empty chair and, just like her a few hours ago, takes a minute to look Dennis over and seemingly checks every inch of his body, every tube and wire, every number on the monitors.
Dennis remains asleep, chest rising slowly up and down, one hand resting on his stomach, the other one lying limply at his side on top of the blanket.
“Jesus, what did you do to yourself, Whitaker?” he whispers quietly, voice rough and scruffy.
Trinity swallows again but nothing she does can keep the tears she's been holding in for so long from finally falling down her cheeks and in the presence of her mentor she finally lets go.
Her sobs are quiet at first, wrecking her body more and more until they become loud and violent.
She feels a warm hand land on her shoulder and as she looks up her tear filled eyes meet Robby's brown ones.
He looks older and more greyed out than last time she saw him. As if he's aged 10 years since Friday.
“It will be okay,” he says and gives her shoulder a squeeze.
“Everything will be okay!”
