Chapter 0: Exposition / Phoenix Program: Employee Handbook
Humans...
a creature, an animal, the same as the rest of us yet different from us. They have no fur for warmth or claws for protection, no fangs or a great call like a bark or howl. They aren't the best swimmers compared to the rest of us, and they have no wings to fly or extreme strength.
Yet...
They just are.
The First Tail states the World Maker, the Great Nintendo, took some fur, feather, scale, fin, and a piece of soft skin, all from the end of their tail. They then dropped them upon the Earth, and they spread out. From that, the first animals were made. Over time, they changed and became different, yet the same.
From the fur, all mammals were born.
From the feather, all birds descend.
From the scale, reptiles crawled from under.
From the fin, fish swam out.
And from the soft skin, amphibians hopped.
And they were all gifted blessings, some more than others. The mammals were given fur so they would always be warm while they walked the world. The birds were given wings so they could be free to fly among the skies. The reptiles, scales, so they would always be protected, even from the harshest earth. The fish, fins and gills to explore the waters. And amphibians, the choice between the water and land.
Things were good for a while. The world was at peace. The mammals stayed with the mammals, and the birds with the birds, and so on and so on. But the creatures soon noticed their differences and started to fight. The fighting got worse.
This made Nintendo very sad. After all the world was E for everyone
So they made one final creature.
Different from the rest.
Very different.
They took a piece of flesh, this time from their head, and dropped it upon the Earth. And from that, humans were made.
At first, not much changed humans were just another creature. The fighting continued, and humans couldn't do much. After all, they were weaker than everyone else.
But from that weakness, an advantage formed.
They traded with mammals for their fur and crafted clothes. They traded with reptiles for their claws to craft weapons. They traded with birds to be their eyes in the sky. They traded with fish so they could see the sea. And they traded with amphibians to walk between the worlds.
With the help of humans, the creatures soon came together again, realizing that even with their differences, they could use them to help each other.
And once again, the world was at peace.
Their disadvantage allowed them to think.
But humans did not just stop there. As time went on and the creatures changed, so did the humans. Working alongside every creature, they made amazing things: machines that allowed everyone to fly, boats so that we all could explore the sea, and even the wheel so that all could explore the Earth.
Together.
And even now, in modern times, humans still continue to create. They make telephones so that all could be connected, and spaceships so that we could explore the sky we had been looking at together for years they made fashion and art.
But with the connections humans made, an accidental problem formed.
They were disappearing.
Inadvertently, as humans made connections with more and more, you could say they were forgetting the connections with themselves. Everyone loved the humans, and humans loved everyone. And with the ban on interspecies marriage being lifted less the 500 years ago, less and less humans started being together and more with whoever there around.
In an act called sexual imprinting. you see a Monarch butterfly and an Emperor butterfly could never mate naturally but if one is raised alond side the other they see no difference in species and will only try to reprodus with the other. now adays its more rare to meet someone who is a non hybrid then someone who is "pure" so to say.
And so, less and less pure humans were born. animal traits usually out bid the human ones in the gene pool.
And with that, the Phoenix Program was made to bring humans back from the precipice of extinction.
78% of all modern inventions were created by humans. 22% were created by human-animal hybrids. The remaining 10% was created by animals alone.
That is why we do what we do.
Its believed that the lack of "wild instincts" humans have is what allows them to think, to break free from the urge to bite, scratch and just survive.
To Become More then what they are.
And under this program, many inventions have formed thanks to humans, From the very cell phone your reading this from the the fashion and very clothing on you back. its all thanks to humans.
So, for the sake of lifting animalkind, we must not allow these creatures to disappear. Think of all this as a thank you for all they have done
The process is simple
Once a human is born, they are kept under the care of their parents (NEVER:try to forcefully remove the young of a human the Will fight back even in a weaken state) for years before being moved off to the first "Island." Here, they are given all the care and resources they need for proper, perfect human development.
This counts as a temporary home for them until they reach the next phase: the New Leaf phase of the Phoenix Program.
Or, as some call it, Island 2.
Island 1 tells us what our human is best at based on their growth and scores, what they will exceed at, and what we should work on in the final phase.
There are two outcomes in the final phase: City Folk or New Horizons.
If a human exceeds expectations in something beneficial to the rest of us, they are "shipped off" to live a monitored, happy life in "The City"™.
There, they can expand their specialty and help society with jobs in "The City"™ alongside many other humans and animals, working together to help lift each other up.
It doesn't matter what your human excels at. There's always a job for it, whether it's art, music, science, technology, math, health/veterinary, and more. We will find something for them to do.
After all, humans need constant psychological stimulation to stay healthy.
However, if a human isn't yet ready for "The City"™, they are moved to New Horizons.
New Horizons keeps the human occupied on their "island" with a happy, normal, natural life. They are taught and shown many new things before they are ready to be "shipped off."
Of course, we don't tell humans this.
If there's one thing humans do not like, it's being controlled or told what to do. In the past, when we kept things out of the human's control, they would fight and revolt, and we can't have that again.
We all know the saying: give a human enough time and literally anything, and they'll make a weapon out of it.
The punishment for telling a human about the Phoenix Program counts as treason and can lead to up to 50 years in a federal prison. Along with that, all your assets will belong to the Phoenix Program.
Anyway, speaking of weapons...
Along with their great, beneficial inventions, humans have also created a lot of weapons. Tools to defend themselves are one of the many things humans love to create the most.
Unsurprisingly, as naturally they have no real means to protect themselves, which is why we must protect them.
As a member of the Phoenix Program, your purpose is to care for and keep the species alive.
As you live alongside your assigned human on the island, you will be given all the means you need: a free home, food, and friends/coworkers.
Along with those things, you will also receive a check—ultimately, money you deserve for your environmental work for when you eventually leave the island.
What more could you need?
And if you need anything else, ask the human.
(Humans LOVE helping.)
(And it keeps them busy)
Okay, it was going to come up at some point as you've probably heard, there have been many complaints about how this is all highly unethical. from certain groups
But under current world laws, potected humans no longer count as animals.
They are counted as property underneath the Phoenix Corp.
And as property, any damage to a human counts as damage to Phoenix Corp assets, which can entail extreme fines and other punishment.
Because they are property, this allows us to control pretty much everything about them, including reproduction.
but everything we do is to ensure that humanity survives during either the New Horizons or "The City"™ phase.
We allow them to choose a mate. And if the human chooses an animal mate, as sexual imprinting has sort of become an accidental industry standard, how do we ensure that what is born is a true human?
Artificial insemination. but is not like we are forcing them do do anything they don't want to do.
But the rest of that is not important right now.
