Chapter Text
‘’What is that?’’ Eddie asks hair all ruffled from sleep, his hip resting on the kitchen counter with mug lifted half way to his lips.
Buck is flushed, standing on the doorway of the backdoor of the house, snuggled in his grey sweatshirt and holding something on his chest.
‘’Eddy,’’ he says simply and gently goes over the thing in his giant hands with the pad of his fingers.
The thing meows.
What the hell?
Eddie leaves the mug on the counter and glides towards Buck, now finally seeing a small—eyes wide like saucers—orange cat in Buck’s hands looking at him like he’s one step of calling him daddy.
The cat calling him daddy, not the other way around, okay?
Eddie lifts his eyebrow. ‘’Eddie?’’ He asks Buck.
‘’Yes?’’ Buck lifts his head and looks at Eddie.
‘’No, Eddie,’’ Eddie points at the cat.
‘’No, Eddy,’’ Buck answers.
‘’You mean Eddie?’’
‘’No. Eddy,’’ Buck says again smiling and dropping a featherlight kiss on top of the cat’s head.
Eddie rolls his eyes but he melts at the sight. ‘’Buck, it’s the same thing.’’
‘’No, it’s not. It’s spelled and pronounced differently,’’ he just shrugs his shoulders.
Eddie is still looking at the cat who is now lifting her little head and rubbing all over Eddie’s finger.
Oh Jesus fuck, aren’t you the cutest little intruder ever!
‘’So, Eddie…’’ Buck starts but Eddie doesn’t pay attention to him until he feels Buck nudging him with his foot then snaps his head towards Buck.
‘’What, oh you’re talking to me now?’’
‘’This is so fucking confusing,’’ Buck groans and leans his forehead on Eddie’s shoulder.
Eddie snorts and kisses Buck’s temple.

Sometime later during their breakfast as Eddie is slathering butter on a piece of Theo’s toast Buck is flipping pancakes. Christopher is sitting by the table with Eddy the cat in his lap, all snuggled up like a Pokémon ball.
Buck the dog is curled up in a ball too and partly sitting with his front paws on Chris’s legs under the table.
Theo is studying the dog and the cat and looks like he wants to ask something but his mind is still buffering.
He finally asks Eddie. ‘’Can we have hamsters?’’
‘’No. Eddy would eat them,’’ Buck automatically responds still flipping the pancakes.
Theo snaps his head in Eddie—the human—direction.
‘’Not me, the other Eddie,’’ Eddie flips his hand on Buck’s butt.
‘’Cat Eddie—Eddy,’’ Buck clarifies.
Theo frowns. ‘’Why would Eddie eat hamsters?’’
Eddie sighs. ‘’I wouldn’t but he would,’’ he points at the cat.
‘’But you’re Eddie,’’ Theo says again confused.
‘’Yes, but I don’t eat hamsters. Eddy does.’’
‘’Eddie?’’ Theo tries again.
‘’No, Eddy.’’
Buck groans and slams his forehead on the cupboard. ‘’God, this is becoming so confusing.’’
Christopher lifts his head from where he was absentmindedly petting the cat and looks at him. ‘’You think?’’
Theo chews on his toast and after a minute he says— ‘’If we get hamsters can we call them Theo and Chris?’’
‘’No!’’ Buck, Eddie and Christopher yell in unison.
