He knows the physical agony of a bullet tearing through his shoulder, the psychological torment of his own mind trapping him in one panic attack after another, and the quiet, crushing sorrow of a breaking heart. He thought he knew the limits of what a human soul could endure before it simply gave up.

    But this?

    This isn’t a pain he recognises. This isn't a wound he can bandage or a grief he can eventually learn to carry.
