Chapter Text

Fire Drill
They are going to put up a fight but make sure they do it anyways.

The unimpressed looks he received when he announced that there will be a fire drill wasn’t much of a surprise.

Toshinori finally felt like he was on top of his game and was slightly giddy. He had finished all the work he needed to do for this week and would finally have the weekend free. Aizawa warned him in the morning about the fire drill that was going to happen when he’s in charge of the class. With that in mind, he quickly read over what Aizawa had written about it in the folder and felt completely prepared for anything the student might throw at him.

“Fire drills are stupid and a waste of time.” Bakugou said as he leaned back in his seat in a huff.

“It’s school policy to this drill. In the event of a fire, it would be important to know how to react and what you should be doing.” Toshinori replied quickly.

“I have to agree with Bakubro on this It is dumb.” Mina said. She turned in her seat and pointed to a bored looking Todoroki. Todoroki looked up from examining his nails at the movement and raised an eyebrow in her direction. “He can just ice over the fire, and boom, no fire.”

“Yes he could, but it would be important to know what to do if he wasn’t here.”

“Then can I not do the drill? Besides, I have some resistance against fire.” Todoroki asked.

“I do too and If I have to do it, so do you half-n-half.” Bakugou shot out as if Todoroki was going to be able to get out of doing the drill.

“Uh, not to make things worse, but I’m also fire resistant when my quirk is activated.” Kirishima mumbled.

“Can I not do the drill either? Dark Shadow does not want to participate, he’s terrified of fires.” Tokoyami interjected. Despite what he said, Dark Shadow had appeared behind him and looked excited as he gathered up Tokoyami’s backpack into his arms. His whole demeanor contradicted the fake concern on Tokoyami’s face.

“There won’t be an actual fire present and you all doing the drill. What would you do if some other students saw you staying behind during an actual fire and tried to help you?”

“I’d carry them out..” Kirishima said just as Bakugou said that it’d be their fault for being that fucking stupid.

“What if there’s too many? And what if your fellow students stay behind with you and now you are all trapped inside. They’re not fire resistant as the rest of you.”

“Uraraka can just float us out the window.” Hagakure pointed out.

“She has a limit on how much she can carry with her quirk. What if you don’t have enough time for her to float everyone out? You’d be stuck. There’s a reason why we do this, just follow the procedure when it’s time.”

“I bet Midoriya would figure something out, he always has something planned.” Sero said, pointing to a now flustered Midoriya.

“What the hell is he going to do? Kick the fucking fire?” Bakugou asked.

Midoriya covered his reddening face with his hands as some people tried to defend him while others laugh.

“I think I’d stay. I think it would be interesting to see what Mina’s acid would do with the fire. Would only certain ph’s flammable? Or would it do nothing? What color would it show when it’s burned?” Midoriya got quieter as he started to mutter underneath his breath with a finger on his lip.

Just as Toshinori tried to get them back on topic as Ashido agreed that she’d like to test it out also, the alarms started blaring.

“That’s weird. Its thirty minutes early.” He mumbled to himself before clapping his hands to get the student’s attention. “All right, single file now.”

Iida took charge immediately and started waving the students to file into line while doing a headcount. When some lagged behind, he jumped on it. They quickly caved and followed orders as Iida lectured them about the importance of following the safety guidelines in times of emergency.

The class eventually got into a straight line and left the room. Some did look excited for the small break from class. Aoyama talked about showing off his new hair clip he got to the other classes while they waited for the drill to end. Kaminari and Ashido talked about doing a quick study secession with Yaoyorozu before the test in the next class.

It was all going fine, until Tokoyami let out a small gasp.

“Mina, we are going to have to host a funeral later.” Tokoyami said as he started typing on his phone rapidly.

Toshinori felt alarmed by the statement but quickly faded away when he realized who said it.

“Why what happened?

“I got a message from my fellow dark brethren.” Tokoyami said solemnly and held up the phone as he read out the message.”The Light has come for us. Goodbye my friend in Darkness.””

“”Is that from class b?” Toshinori interjected before Ashido could start talking about future plans.

“Indeed.”

“Iida! You’re in charge, make sure they get outside safely. I’m going to make sure that class b is fine.” Toshinori yelled getting the students attention. Iida immediately turned his focus back on the class and started to urge them down the last steps outside and into the grass yard with the other classes.

Toshinori couldn’t help but feel a bit of dread in his stomach as he went further into the building to go back into class 1B. The way that the fire drill was early and the text message that Tokoyami got didn’t sit right.

The feeling intensified when he saw smoke coming out from under the door and a high pitch scream. He quickly pushed the door open and froze at the sight he saw.

He felt relieved that there was only a handful of students in the room, but worried that Vlad King was nowhere in sight. What immediately drew his eyes was the large pile of paper lit ablaze in the middle of the room.

Pony was standing near the fire, soot covering her hair while she was holding onto a lit piece of paper like a sparkler. She was staring at her left at a screaming Monoma with confusion written clearly on her face. Kuroiro had his back and arms pressed against the far wall as if he could climb up and melt into it. Ibara was next to him and had a wide stance like she was about to do something but was keeping her hair as far away from the fire as possible.

Toshinori couldn’t help but stare dumbfounded as he saw Kinoko crouched next to the fire and started putting different types of mushrooms in it. Fukidashi was standing on the other side of the fire and was attempting to put the fire out by flapping his jacket over it.

“What the hell! I left for five minutes!”
Toshinori jumped to the side as Kendo pushed passed him. She enlarged her hand and placed it over the fire until smoke came out between her fingers. As soon as she checked that her hand was okay from putting out the fire, she turned her ire at the still screaming Monoma.

“What did you do.” She growled as she walked over.

“Nothing!” Monoma shrieked when she pinched his ear. “Fine! I told Pony that we were going to have a fire drill!”

“”What else?” Kendo questioned pulling his ear down more causing him to have to lean over to relieve some of the pressure.

“I might have applied that in Japan, you need have fire to do a fire drill.”

“And?”

“And that it might have been our turn to supply the fire.”

“Is that not how the hero course works here?” Pony asked. Her hands holding onto a singed piece of paper. “He said that hero courses were very efficient.”

“No that’s not how it works.” Toshinori coughed out, breaking the potential argument. Toshinori felt him sweat drop as all the students head whipped in his direction. Some of them looked surprise when they finally noticed him by the door.

“Am i in trouble?” Pony asked and her eye’s to widen even further.

“No.” Toshinori replied quickly at the watering eyes. Why does that always work on him? “”I’ll have to report it to Vlad King, but i’m sure it will be okay. Let’s just finished the drill.”

He received a couple of nods and sorry's as they started to leave the room. Kinoko mumble she didn’t get to finish her experiment but was quickly shushed by Fukidashi. He heard Kuroiro mumble that the light did not conquer him today as he walked by. The rest of the walk back was oddly quiet as they shuffled outside.

“Wow, look at Class 1A, can’t even do a fire drill right. They can’t follow orders and stay where they were supposed to.” Mononoma sneered as soon as he saw the different classes lined up.

He was right, not all Class 1A were where they were supposed to be. Some of the students were sitting on the grass in a circle as they played a hand game, some wandered off to talk to some of the other classes, and it looked like Bakugou was taking a nap. A direct contrast against class A, class B were all standing in their now fully formed line. Almost all of them were standing in line, the only outlier was Monoma who decided to get closer to Class A to make sure they heard him.

“Oh like you’re one to talk.” Kendo mumbled as she hit the back of his head. Monoma let out a whine as she grabbed his arm and apologized to them as she dragged him back into their line. “”You started all this and all you did was scream.”

Toshinori made sure they met up with the rest of their class and saw Vlad King with his hands pressed against his temple off to the side with the other teachers.

“They did it. Didn’t they.” Vlad mumbled when he reached him.

“Looks like it.”

“Great. I thought they would be able to handle themselves if I left them with something to do while I took the rest of the class to get evaluated.”

“Well, it looked like the paperwork was definitely put to use. “Toshinori chuckled as Vlad let out another groan.

Fire Drill

They are going to put up a fight but make sure they do it anyways. They are going to come up with every excuse under the sun to skip this. We only do one fire drill a semester, so make sure they do them both.

If things go by smoothly, I’ll be in charge during the fire drill like the first. However, if I’m not, I’ve listed some of my experiences below so you may know what to expect. No matter what, don’t let them talk you out of the drill. Not only is it school policy, if they do get out of it, all they would do is mess around in class.

Reasoners
Students that come up with reasons on why they don’t think the drill is necessary.

Yaoyorozu: Can create fire extinguishers
-I told her, that sooner or later she’d run out of energy to create enough if the fire’s large enough. She won’t fight you too hard on it.

Tokoyami: wants to avoid the whole drill in the first place and will use Dark Shadow as an excuse to get out of it.
-Dark Shadow won't actually encounter any fire and they actually enjoys drills. This excuse falls flat if you ask Dark Shadow directly what they want to do.

Bakugou: Says that the fire doesn’t bother him.
-I know his arms are pretty resistant to some degree, but not enough to be classified as fireproof.

Todoroki: Can put out the fire with his ice and has some resistance to fire.
-Point out his quirk control. He has a habit of making the ice bigger than it needs to be. He is also not completely immune to heat, I saw him burn himself on a pan before.

Kirishima: not bothered by fire in his unbreakable form.
-If you tell him that he needs to lead a good example for his other “fire resistant” peers and that his other less resistant friends would undoubtedly try to stay behind with him, he’ll quickly agree to do the drill.

The disasters
Keep an eye on these students during the drill.

Uraraka: Tried to float out the window during the drill saying it’s faster.
-Once again not schools policy and she should stay with the group.

Aoyama: is convinced that the fire would make create good lighting and would make him sparkle more.
-He’d let it go if you tell him no one can see him sparkle if no one is there.

Midoriya: Wanted to stay to see how fire would affect other people’s quirks.
Iida will drag him out when his habit of mumbling kicks in, so you don’t have to worry about it too much.

Mina: Thought she could speed up their walk by coating the floor with acid so the hallway would act like a slip n slide
-If i have to tell you why this is a bad idea, you shouldn’t be in charge of children.
