Chapter Text
“Heck,” Freddy said, reading Clark’s latest letter. “Billy.”
“Mhmm,” said Billy, who was in the middle of a book.
“Billy.”
“Yeah,” said Billy, still focused on his book.
“Billy!”
Billy finally put down his book. “What!?”
“I think- okay, I may be reading into this a little bit too much, but…” Freddy re-read the letter, a smile growing over his face. “At least a few of my theories were correct.”
“The one about Oh Il-nam being Seong Gi-hun’s father?”
“No, the one about Clark Kent being Superman! ”
Billy’s attention was ripped entirely away from his book. “What!?”
“Maybe I’m interpreting this wrong, but does this not seem like he’s confirming my theories by not confirming them?”
Freddy held out his letter, and Billy read it over. “That… that totally does, oh my gosh.”
“What do I say?” Freddy cried. “I didn’t plan ahead this far! I didn’t plan ahead at all!”
“Write back!” Billy cried. “Tell him to come over for dinner!”
“For dinner? Wouldn’t that be awkward?”
“Maybe, but it would also be hilarious.”
“True, true.”
Freddy bent over his desk and pulled out his pen. Billy hovered over his shoulder anxiously.
Clark checked his mail for the fifth time that day, and literally hovered with excitement when he saw that it had arrived, and with it, Freddy’s letter.
Sure! I’m available on Saturday, you could come over for dinner with my family…? We eat around six.
P.S. didja know that McDonalds once made bubblegum-flavored broccoli?
Clark replied back that no, he’d never heard that before and was rather peeved that he knew it now, and yes, he’d love to come over for dinner.
“Superman’s coming over for dinner,” Freddy announced on Saturday.
Rosa snorted. “Sure.”
At exactly six o’clock on Sunday, Clark appeared at the Vazquez’ front door.
A little girl with dark skin opened the door, looked at Clark, and called out, “Rosa, there’s a stranger on our door!”
“No, that’s Super- Clark! Kent! I invited him over for dinner!” called Freddy. There was a crash, a bang, and the sound of a cat yowling, and Freddy appeared at the door, breathless. “Hi!”
“Hello,” Clark said politely. “I brought some of my ma’s pie.”
“Oh, heck yes!” Freddy cried, before catching himself and saying, “please come in.”
