He’s leaning back against his car, backpack at his feet, and his dimples are visible, barely, in the yellow glow of the streetlight as he watches Spencer approach. Just the sight of him — and his soft, sweet smile — makes it a little easier to breathe.
Spencer half-runs, flings himself against Sam’s chest just a shade too hard — it’s not a hug so much as a collision, but Sam’s steady and strong and knows to wrap him up and squeeze him tight.

After that, they will meet once every few months, once every few years, each time more changed and worn down, never knowing when (if ?) they'll see each other again.
Navigating in their own respective lives the best they can, they will still try to make place for this to grow, but it's never, never easy.
