Book 3 of Lu Ten and Zuko series.
Their defeat in Ba Sing Se left the two cousins being seperated once again. While Zuko managed to escape with his friends/found family, Lu Ten made a sacrifice to go back to the palace.
Pretending to have switched sides, he tries to gather information to help his friends, without his evil Uncle Firelord Ozai to suspect a thing.
Now Lu Ten and Zuko are back in the Firenation, their old home, but under two completly diffrent circumstances. But both have the same goal:
Stop Ozai and seeing each other again.

Summary
For the first time in decades, the Fire Nation has suffered a major defeat. With the returned Avatar now in play and known to the world, there is now a race against time for Aang to master the remaining elements before the return of Sozin's comet. Fortunately, he has many new allies, including the former Prince Iroh, ready to aid him in his journey.
At the same time, Sokka has been separated from the Gaang and fallen in with the equally rebellious Princess Azula. However, nothing is ever as it seems, and he has to figure out what is the best option for both his own survival and to end the war in a meaningful way. Summary
Katara had been so sure of her plan to liberate the prison rig. How was she to know how efficiently the guards would respond to an uprising? Zuko had been positive that his best course of action was to travel separate from his Uncle. What else was he supposed to do when he came across a person from his past? Sometimes, through all the doubt, two people collide. Eventual Zutara.
This is both a Canon Related and Canon Divergent, reimagined ATLA story. Katara joins Zuko in his journey of self-discovery across the Earth Kingdom as personalities clash and beliefs are questioned. Familiar allies and enemies await them along the way.
Ripple effects of having Katara absent from the majority of 'Book 1: Water,' are seen once Katara and Zuko meet up with the Gaang later on in the story. 'Book 1: Water' occurs mainly in the flashbacks of this story as Chapter 1 picks up close to the start of 'Book 2: Earth.'
The plot of the story has now reached the allied invasion of the Fire Nation Capital City. The scene is set for Zuko's confrontation with his Father, Ozai.

Aside from being a survivor of a horrible genocide and his small, though harrowing captivity time with the Fire Nation, leaving terrible scars on the young Avatar, he was already in love with her at first sight. Alternatively Prince Zuko's life is more complicated, not only having to chase them, but on a journey with Katara of the Southern Water Tribe. Their past scars loom over them, past trauma and mutual loss leading to conflicting emotions of all type, that eventually flourishes into a unfamiliar road for both as well. The tone of this is going to be a darker, gritter, more serious, one of the Avatar's universe. (AU)

Whatever it was scaring Prince Zuko, apparently Sokka understood it, too. Shyu could hear the boy’s nervous gulp from across the brig.
If it could scare the Avatar’s companion and the crown prince, Shyu knew it must be terrifying.
“I have some questions about the Avatar,” Zhao drawled as he stood before Sokka’s cell. “And you will answer them if you know what’s good for you.”
Despite the mounting fear in his eyes, Sokka lifted his chin in desperate defiance as he crossed his arms and stood upright. “And when I don’t answer them?”
Zhao smiled.
Sokka tried to rescue Sage Shyu from the collapse of Roku's temple. Instead he, Shyu, and Zuko were all captured by Commander Zhao.
And Zhao never wastes an opportunity.

Fire, Earth, Water and Air.
The way they were sorted was stupid. Personality tests to access which house you'd fit in the most and then boom you share a common room with those people. He'd been put into Fire and everyone jokingly calls their common room and dorms the fire nation. Each dorm has a name and Zuko got Caldera.
The Earth kids were normally stubborn and into nature everyone called their area of the school the Earth kingdom. Some of the dorms were shared between the Fire and Earth kids people joked they were fire nation colonies.
The Water group was full of people who had big dreams and good grades but each year they were getting less and less. It was kinda sad really. Kids coming in each year were 11 years old meant to be happy and full of hope and all the other bullshit Zuko would've laughed at when he was 11.
The Air kids had the old towers of the school and everyone joked they looked like temples and so the Air kids had Air temples. Being sorted into the Air group was a nice way of calling them autistic. Lots of the kids had special nerdy interests but were the most bubbly and yet serious people Zuko has ever met.

As with most things in life, hindsight is the only clarity humans can get. Lieutenant Jee has more experience in this than he’d like.
Prince Zuko was a trial from Angi to either prove Jee a decent man, or drive him utterly insane.
It’s a pity that clarity doesn’t come when you need it, only ever when it’s all too late.
