It was hours before they left, but leave they did, a slight swagger in their step and an unfamiliar glint of power in their eyes. The spirit portal wasn't all that far away, but they meandered around for a while longer- their mission was accomplished, much sooner and more simply than expected, so where was the harm in enjoying the journey home?

What if Sokka took up a power that he did not understand? What would it cost? And what would his family do to save him?
What if Azula had been shown another way? If someone had helped her, could she find her own redemption?
Underlying theme: The dereliction of duty and the consequences thereof, and that if you hold to your convictions and are resolved in your duty you will find salvation.
This takes place in the universe in which Aang did not use Sokka's jerky as fire stater in episode three, and the butterfly effect is strong indeed.

When sickness reaches a small village far from the capital of the Northern Water Tribe, they do not have a handy spiritual oasis to pray for Tui and La's blessing. When a desperate mother prays for her son's safety, she places him in the water closest to her and calls to any spirit who might listen, this far from holiness. One does.
Rather than the white of the moon's blessing, her son returns with his hair leeched gray and mind full of another life. In the spirit world, that old Face-Stealer laughs and laughs.

A few years after the 100-year war, the Gaang takes a much needed vacation away from responsibility, stress, and the bureaucracy surrounding bumble-flies. Meanwhile, on another parallel world, Eren has just begun The Rumbling. These two worlds collide when Aang uses his Avatar powers for shenanigans on a mysterious statue at an ancient spiritual site. The people of both worlds learn that they are not as alone in the universe as they once thought. Despite initially being a world apart, both peoples share a history of trauma and pain that they can begin to unravel and re-knit with hopefully less itchiness and more comfort—that is, if Aang and Eren stop triggering one another with talks of genocide, absolutist philosophies, and general pigheadedness.
Rated M for language (can confirm Toph drops at least one f-bomb), a sexy baseball game where everyone plays and nobody knows what they’re doing, and violence that is toned down for AoT, but a step into big-boy pants for AtLA.
