“The district 11 male tribute will be…” Ming Ming paused to squint at the paper, “Sokka, son of Hakoda!”
“And now for the ladies...” Ming Ming said, but Katara barely hears her. Greif has already set in. Katara knows her brother, strong as he is, will not survive a Hunger Games, not against the terrifying fire-bending tributes from districts one, two and three. The odds are never in her family's favour.
This is proven true when Ming Ming announces that the female tribute from district 11 will be Katara.

Summary
Uncle Iroh- for some reason Zuko yet again failed to understand -refused to shoot lightning at his nephew. When further asked about it, he'd said something about it being for safety and health reasons (although it was still a bit unclear whose health he was referring to).
Zuko had never been able to count on luck though. If he wanted to ensure he could get an upper hand against his family, he would have to go and look for one himself, like with pretty much everything else in his life.
But perhaps people should really be careful of what they wish for. It might become true in the least expected ways.

Summary
It’s Zuko’s second Camp Boomerang summer, and as the camp fills with kids again it feels more like home than anywhere has in a very long time.
Sokka braces for a summer season that doesn’t quite feel right. It’ll be Katara’s last summer before going to med school, and she’s spending half of it at an internship. Camp feels…off this year. And Zuko doesn’t need anywhere near the same amount of help he did last summer and…Sokka has no idea what to do with himself.
Azula takes a summer job at the camp, filling in for Zuko in the kitchen with Aunt Wu, as a way to fill the weeks before starting law school. She signs up for a summer job and ends up getting a great deal more than she bargained for.

Ripple effects of having Katara absent from the majority of 'Book 1: Water,' are seen once Katara and Zuko meet up with the Gaang later on in the story. 'Book 1: Water' occurs mainly in the flashbacks of this story as Chapter 1 picks up close to the start of 'Book 2: Earth.'

The Gaang, Zuko, and Iroh have finally made it across the arid desert and to the great walled city of Ba Sing Se.
However, within the walls of the Earth Kingdom's largest city, things are not as idylic as they would appear, and they face challenges that they never considered.
In addition to secret police, fire nation drills, and worst of all, politics, they will run into friends and foes both old and new, including some faces that they never wanted to see again.
