Chapter Text
Adora was growing increasingly bored at this meeting. All she wanted to do was go home to her wife and have a quiet and peaceful night. As soon as the meeting was over she grabbed her bag and began to walk to her car that was sitting in the parking lot. As she sat in her car she texted Catra
“Hey what are we doing tonight?”
Adora didn’t have to wait long for a response and saw the bubbles forming indicating that Catra was typing back.
“You’ll see when you get home:)” was all the response she got back. Adora was a bit anxious but figured it was a good surprise. She started her car and as the engine hummed to life she thought of what Catra’s surprise could be.
Maybe she had gotten a promotion although she would be to ecstatic to wait to wait to tell her. So it must be something else. As she pondered more as she drove through the streets a call appeared on her cars display. It was a call from a number not in her phone.
Absentmindedly she answered.
“Is this Mrs. Driluith speaking?” The voice on the other end asked.
“Yes this is she who is this” Adora replied as she turned onto their street.
“I have some unfortunate news concerning your wife Catrina Driluith.” Adora’s blood ran cold and she could feel her face pale and her stomach twist and turn.
“I’m sorry but she collided with another car on the freeway and hit an oncoming car, we did everything we could but she didn’t make it. If it’s any consolation the other cars occupants are fine besides some bruising and scrapes.”
Adora pulled her car into the driveway of the house that she and Catra had shared. Her eyes filling with tears as she struggled to save face. She felt her heart shatter into millions of pieces. She felt like she couldn’t breathe she couldn’t think.
“I-okay d-do you know how it happened? How she died?”
“Well we suspect it was texting and driving as we found her phone near her hand when we arrived on scene, you can come and…” His voice faded from focus as Adora felt dread deep into every crevice in her body.
She killed Catra.
Catra was texting her.
Adora texted her first.
It was her fault. She was the last person that texted her so she must be the cause right?
“Thank you I need to go.” Adora didn’t bother waiting for a response as she entered the house. She went to put her keys in the kitchen but stopped as she saw a bright pink piece of paper on the table.
“Guess who’s going to be the best mom in the world!!! Hint: blonde, amazing, and Adora-ble <3”
Adora ran to the bathroom and saw the positive pregnancy test on the counter. She picked it up into her hands and shook as she cried.
She held the key to her world, she wife and unborn child. Now the walls were closing in on her, everything that she and Catra built together was crumbling and it was her fault. She was shaking as she lifted herself off the floor of the bathroom in their shared home. She felt like she lost everything, and in a sense she had.
