It's a few years into the Rebellion, and things can still be pretty tense around Eito Aotsuki. Tsubasa can never tell what he's thinking, but she's pretty sure she's on his shit list for dating the guy he's obviously in love with. She mostly just tries to keep her distance and stay professional with him.
One day when everyone but her and Eito are away from the academy, a bomb hidden in a supply delivery goes off as she's running maintenance on the Revive-o-Matic...

Eito follows Takumi out onto the stage, as is his social duty as his adjutant. If he just doesn't look at the writhing masses below, if he breathes only through his mouth, he can survive this. He would make it through. And... if he could, then this evening, he could bully Takumi into praising and thanking him for his service. It was truly the least the General could do for dragging him out in public like this, knowing how miserable it makes him.
Unfortunately, all thoughts of that thoroughly derail the moment he takes his first step into the spotlight to a horrifying, ear-splitting chorus of screams rising from the gathered audience.
(Eito Aotsuki very suddenly comes to terms with the fact that he has fans among the Futuran youth.)

Takumi never quite seems to be able to see eye to eye with Eito, even though they work together every day. He's so grateful for the help he just wishes he could pay his adjutant back somehow. One day, he gets it into his head that maybe he'd be able to actually cure that awful curse Eito's afflicted with using the Dolmenic Cognitive Reconstruction Therapy machine back at the first academy! His excited offer does NOT go over well and he doesn't quite understand why... but now he needs to patch things up between them. The only question is how?

"Excuse me?"
"Well, the... thing is, I think I've figured out how to create the Ruby Tear. It's supposed to make it possible to bring back the dead. Darumi, Kyoshika, Kurara, Eva... Nozomi..." Takumi's voice broke on the last name.
Something inside Eito broke with it. He smiled bitterly. "So that's it, is it? That's the trade you have to make. One life to save five."
Takumi took a deep breath. "Yeah, pretty much. You've got it."
"And that's why you chose me."

Summary
While he was organizing and cataloguing the school library as a part of his Rebellion duties, Eito discovered information about the Retsnom. Fearing the lengths Takumi would be willing to go to if he ever found out there was a way to bring their long passed teammates back from the dead, Eito struck a backrooms deal with the SDU's enemies in Futuran Command to destroy the Retsnom and all known information about it for good.
Some time later, Takumi discovered that Eito was the one who gave away secrets of the Revive-o-Matic, and on top of that had done so with the knowing intent to erase the one chance Takumi might ever have had to rectify the mistakes he made in his youth.
