Summary
The footsteps came closer. Thrawn couldn’t stop the strangled, mewling noise that came from his throat as the figure kneeled down next to him; the sound of breathing and rustling fabric next to him was overwhelming enough that he nearly shut down from fear. He was about to retreat to his fantasy world - his only way to cope, to escape - when he heard a soft noise, a respectable attempt at a soothing purr from a body not designed to make that particular sound. He responded in kind instinctually, the sound garbled from vocal chords no longer accustomed to making any sound.
“There there, Darlin’. It’s going to be okay now. I’m here, and we’re gonna take you home.”

Summary
By the time Eli was an adult, he had mostly forgotten the stories of the Chiss, the beloved experience of listening to his Grandmother telling them to him now just hazy memories filed away in the recesses of his mind. Said memories were left untouched for years at a time, the details of the individual stories now fuzzy and tangled, irrelevant to him and his life.
Had he remembered his Grandmother’s warnings, perhaps he could have avoided the situation he found himself in, and the fate he was now powerless to escape.
