A collection of original works in the "Seeking Shelter" Universe, by sphagnum. Summary of universe from Ocean_Adjacent's "Finding Solace": Post-pandemic, an omega on the edge of starvation throws himself on the mercy of a pack of ex-military men on some sort of road trip in a post-apocalyptic, collapse environment. The virus impacted his brain, so he can’t understand anyone, and when he speaks it becomes garbled and no one can understand him.

"The smell came back to him first. The sour scents of sweat and grime. The desperation and fear stinking up their prison, sinking into his clothes and digging into his flesh. Then, the sounds. A soft, muffled sobbing came from an omega lying next to him. The exhausted breaths of people waiting to die. The senses built on top of each other, layer by layer, stimuli by stimuli, until Max was back in that shipping container. Pressed up against that same door. Waiting to be fucked so that he would be fed."

The night sweat started up again, cold dampness running down his neck, the blood rushing into his ears. They wouldn't have left him with the RV, would they? They couldn't go on foot with Issac pregnant. He felt dizzy all over again, stumbling unevenly towards the door. Slipping once or twice before finally getting it open, Max burst into the outside world with a creaky noise from the sealant on the door.

The leader stepped forward, and the betas flanking him moved further out to the side to keep a clear line of fire on Max without impeding the alpha’s progress. The alpha’s nostrils flared and his advancing steps stuttered, pausing and then resuming twice as fast. Max felt a sick little swoop in his belly, grim satisfaction that his plan was working mixed with an awareness of what that would mean for him later. Guns down, gentlemen. Oscar protocol.
The betas lowered their rifles instantly, pointing them at the ground in front of Max instead of his chest. Max took a deeper breath in, his tension easing a bit as he moved past the part of the plan where he might just get shot dead before he had a chance to try to bargain. It had always been a risk; it had just seemed like a better death than slow starvation.
The alpha stepped closer, looking him over. He was a big man, but also quiet, light on his feet. Max tipped his chin up. It was a gesture of submission, and it showed that his neck was bare. No bonding bites, no competing claims. The added vulnerability made him tremble a little harder, but it was worth it for the way the alpha zeroed in on his throat.
