The worst year of Itoshi Sae’s life began with a bet.
Not a bet that he made. Nor that he or the others had been made aware of—but a bet between Noel Noa and Ego Jinpachi.
Though they were unaware of the wager, its affect on their lives was immediately palpable.
The abrupt increase in the intensity of their practices was the first clue that something had changed. Practices that had already been tailored with the intent of breaking them down into nothing but perfect players—robots who were optimized for peak performance—suddenly became longer, harsher, leaving the majority of the team unable to peel themselves from the ground to go shower.

"Wow, I’m curious about that too. So, what do you say, Ness? Is there anyone?"
Ness seemed to be thinking about her answer before finally saying, with a hint of hesitation,
"…That's Itoshi Rin."
At that very moment, Kaiser paused the interview video he was watching.
