Summary
“Hey! Could you hold the door!?” someone calls out. Startled by the sudden voice, Augustine presses the door open button.
He doesn’t look over as his classmate enters, staring at the buttons on the elevator wall. It isn’t like it would matter for much longer anyways. In a few hours the graduation ceremony would be over, and then he'd never see this guy again.
“Thanks, you wouldn't believe the—” the voice trails off. “Auggie?”
Augustine feels his blood turn to ice. He turns his head slowly and finds wide blue eyes staring back at him.
“...Winnie.”

Augustine and Winnie have always been together their whole childhood. Ever since they were six years old, they've stayed side by side, inseparable from each other.
Now, they're on the way to their high school graduation ceremony, when they find themselves stuck in the elevator.
A reimagining of Elevator Hitch, Augustine and Winnie will have to figure out more than just how to get to their ceremony—they'll have to figure out their feelings, too.

This Grad Dance is anything but perfect for Augustine, from wearing a suit that matches with his friend, Winnie, who he still has no contact with, to being what feels like the only alone person at this dance.
Augustine wants to forget about it all, which is why an invitation to dance from Winnie without words seems just perfect enough to let him go along with it for the moment.
Sadly, nothing perfect lasts forever: the dance in favor of forgetting about the world for a few minutes being no exception.

He’s late.
Augustine huffs out a visible breath that curls like smoke in the cold atmosphere surrounding him, crossing his arms tight into one another as a shield from the light breeze hitting him. It's not biting, not even close, but standing still isn't doing him any favors. Even the soft brush of air against his cheeks is almost stinging. He checks his watch, sighs, and shoves his hands deep into the pockets of his coat, hiking his shoulders up to press the fuzzy lining of his ushanka harder against his ears.
In the past, he might have considered this a means of humiliation. Trying to make him feel small and silly, waiting for an extra hour for someone who doesn't care enough to be there on time. He knows better, now- his only concern is if the friend he's waiting for isn't getting lost in the newly renovated parts of the city. His phone hasn't pinged with a text yet, so hopefully the other is making it alright.
(winnie & auggie have a visit over winter break one year. it goes shockingly good, considering their track record with snow)
