Disgusted both with herself and the corrupt dog and pony show that apparently passed for the legal system these days, Zhou Zishu went back to the only other thing she’d ever done for work, aside from the internships and clerical jobs that she’d taken to build her professional resume: bartending.
It was a cool gig, most of the time. Three months in, and she had no regrets. She actually found work enjoyable most days, even relaxing, as long as that obnoxious hostess who’d started shortly after her wasn’t working, talking her ear off all the time.
Unfortunately, it seemed like she was always there.

Summary
It’s not like Zhou Zishu is in love with her annoying upstairs neighbor - and self declared best friend - who has somehow wormed her way into her life. The fact that she spends most of her time around the woman, both as a human and as a cat, indicates nothing about how much she actually likes Wen Kexing. Free food is free food; she’s not going to say no to someone showing up with a home-cooked meal every night. If Zhou Zishu hangs out on the landing in front of Wen Kexing’s apartment, it’s merely because she always has the best table scraps that she’ll put out in a little bowl by the door. It’s nobody else’s business. Just as it’s no one else’s business if she winds around Wen Kexing’s legs every time she comes outside to sit on the fire escape and drink wine.

Summary
The park is beautiful when red and gold meet in the sky. But for Zishu, the sunlight hitting Kexing’s white hair, making Kexing’s entire shape glow brightly, calls for her eyes more than the sky.
Zhou Zishu is a hairdresser and make-up artist, Wen Kexing is an overworked office worker, and sometimes a night of taking chances can tilt the balance of a relationship that has been fostered over the years.

Summary
Zhou Zishu watches Wen Kexing's pale face relax with sleep under the moonlight. With her eyes closed, she looks even more vulnerable and helpless. Zhou Zishu feels an echo of sympathy bubbling at the bottom of her cold, dead heart.
Two months.

It’s Wen Kexing who escapes her old life, deciding to end her life. Tian Chuang leader Zhou Zishu meets her while tailing a target at a pleasure house. Wen Kexing lets the man take her to the bedroom. Zhou Zishu follows them, bursting into the room when she hears a muffled scream and a thud against the floor. She finds the man dead and bleeding out by the foot of the bed, Wen Kexing holding a bloodied white jade hair pain in her hand and staring straight at Zhou Zishu’s eyes.
“I killed your pray for you, will you kill me?” she says, tone flat without breaking their locked gazes.
Zhou Zishu takes her back to her personal residence, instead.
