Summary
After months of negotiations, Ryan and Shane are given permission to do a weekend long investigation for Unsolved at The Overlook, a famously haunted hotel which is left abandoned during the fall and winter seasons due to severe weather conditions and its relative isolation.
Once left on their own, what Shane had thought would be a fun weekend turns into a fight for survival when Ryan becomes possessed by the very demon he was hunting.

Summary
It turns out that the real reason Ilya goes home to Russia every summer is because of a filial obligation to protect the general public from vampires. Shane wants, more than anything, for Ilya to be free of this wretched duty of caring for people who don’t give a fuck about him. Florida offers a safe place for them both to lay their cards out. Shane’s say I want you. Ilya’s read I want you too, but I have to sort out my affairs first. I need time. Shane is happy to wait, if they get to do it together. He’s worried for Ilya’s safety, but what they’re building together is warm.
Then, Shane ends up at the wrong place at the wrong time. Teeth in the side of his neck. An invincibility to his body that hadn’t been there before. The idyllic future he’d been visualizing of the two of them splinters into pieces.
Or: Ilya is a vampire hunter. Shane gets turned into a vampire a week after finding out.
