You could've died, Lance." When Keith said this, Lance sighed and glanced down
"That was the point..." Lance admitted quietly, referring to how he could've died- tears welling up in his eyes. It took a second and then Keith realized.
When Lance did that impulse, he didn't expect it to work. He expected to die.-------------------
Lance has struggles with suicidal thoughts, and he ends up opening up to Keith- only to make a promise.

Summary
Lance graudated at the top of his class from The Garrison almost three years ago. He was selected to head out on the Kerberos mission with the rest of the crew not long after, going through the preparation and heading out. Now he, and the rest of the crew, have been missing for over two years. Declared dead, and now suddenly he's crashed back on Earth rambling about needing to find a weapon.
Or: Lance is older than Keith by two years and left with Shiro. Suddenly appearing two years later, unaware of how much time has passed and seems to ignore the connection they were growing in search of a weapon he needs to protect from the Galra.

Summary
When Lance was captured by the Galra, it hadn’t been some grand battle. It wasn’t a great, world-ending fight. Hell, it had barely been anything but a routine attack for Voltron.
Except, Lance is back, even if after three months. And you never know how much war can change a person.
But Lance will be damned if Rachel and Marco don't pay up for losing the bet on aliens being real. And he has to survive long enough to see Keith's mullet get chopped off.
So all in all, Lance has reasons to live, a universe to save and one god awful mullet to destroy.
