No one is coming. No one is going to find him lying in a pool of blood and tears.
Eddie runs his hands over his face and through his hair, exhaling with a cough. His bedside table is just within reach. He grabs the pen and notebook and forces himself to sit with his back against the headboard.
He writes it all down, the fear that this is the end tight in his hand as he grips the pen. His thoughts are all over the place. The words in his head work faster than his hand can keep up with.
The gunshot wound didn’t kill him, but it did take his life.

“Why me?!” Buck stares at Eddie, projecting indignance as much as he can through the darkness.
“Big, strong men check out scary noises,” Eddie reasons, still only half-conscious. He wraps himself around Buck’s bicep and drops his head to Buck’s shoulder.
“You’re just as big and strong as I am.”
