Summary
The main lights in the outside room are shut off a short time later as the scientists leave, the space now bathed in the red of the maintenance lighting that is kept on at all times. It stays still, for a time, watching, listening, waiting to see if anyone is coming back. Mentally runs through the list of the name tags it’d seen today, tries to remember if any of them had led more painful prior experiments. When it comes up negative on all of those questions it breathes out a sigh of relief, and during that movement it catches sight of its own ear tag reflected in the glass.

“Oh God, Jason!” Someone was next to him now, touching his face, his wrist. Everywhere he touched burned and ached. Jason wished he’d stop.
He pulled the blanket off Jason and finally, finally Jason could make a noise. It was a scream of protest and pain, but it was so quiet that the man didn’t even acknowledge it.
“Pick up the phone Leslie. Leslie! No, don’t hang up, please. I’m begging you. I have a young boy here, he needs your help. No, he can’t go to a hospital. They’d take him away immediately and he’d never trust me again. Of course I’m serious! He’d disappear into the system and I’d never find him again. Please. I need your help. He has to live. I can’t let him die, I won’t let him die!”

Jason Todd is about to find out just how much Bruce cares for his lapdogs, and he’s going to find out before Bruce can snag himself another one.
Tim cocks the gun.
“Freeze,” he says, mask distorting his voice into something artificial and menacing. “Put your hands in the air, slowly. Do not turn around. Do not make a sound.”
It's been almost five years since Tim died, a little over a year since he escaped the League, and now it's time to kill his replacement before Bruce can adopt another kid and ruin anymore lives.
