Summary
This wasn’t right. Nothing about this was right. Grian’s mind was running too quickly now, leaping to all sorts of conclusions on what might have happened to leave Mumbo’s apartment unlocked and unlatched and looking like this. Maybe he was abducted by aliens. Yes, that was a perfectly reasonable explanation supplied by Grian’s perfectly reasonable brain.
His undershirt was all at once too stiff and tight, clinging to his skin like a wetsuit. It was crushing his ribs, cutting off his ability to breathe.

In the small town of Boatem, everything is nice and neat in its routine. Grian runs the library and chats with the goofy history teacher on his lunch breaks. All is fine and nothing needs to change. And then Mumbo goes missing, and nothing is the same.

Summary
The insurmountable sound of the roof caving in, the support beams failing, and the marble decorations shattering around him seemed to stop all at once. There was nothing but silence. Cold, abrupt, threatening silence.
As quickly as it had begun, the disaster simply ceased.
“Woah,” an unknown voice chimed, echoing through the rubble. A man smiled down at him, his expression bordering somewhere between surprised and amused. “You’ve caused quite a bit of chaos here, haven’t you?”

To be clear, it was a favor forged out of mutual interest. Either side had something to gain from this deal. There were zero other reasons why Scar might’ve accepted Grian’s invitation without really considering it. Zero.
It didn’t matter that Scar had been too distracted by Grian’s mischievous grin to catch his question at first. It didn’t matter that his stomach had practically launched into his throat when the words actually did register. It didn’t matter that they were the same ones he’d fantasized about hearing for the better part of two years now.
“Scar,” Grian had said, dangerously earnest. “Go on a date with me.”

When Grian joins Mumbo working at The Hermit Coffee Co., he is thrown into a world of caffiene and chaos, with meddling co-workers, rambunctious regulars, and an absolutely henious amount of group chats. The friends he left back home miss him, Mumbo's college friends (cough, frat bros, cough) keep pestering him, and his new friendship with a certain scarred individual is developing in a way he never expected.
Will he be able to shake off the meddling redstoners? What will happen when there are two potential romances blossoming on either side of him? And will these baristas ever stop texting each other and just make me my goddamn soy-milk capuccino?
