"It's been two years." Stone said flatly, glaring at Robotnik with an unnatural anger in his once warm brown eyes.
"What did you just say?" Robotnik asked, dumfounded.
Stone stomped towards him, closing the space quickly. A sharp, stinging pain rang through Robotnik's cheek as his agent's open palm slapped against his cheek. Hard.
"I said, it's been two fucking years, doctor." Stone replied, a sharp and cold edge to his once warm and comforting voice. "Where were you that you couldn't come back sooner? Or were you just lying in your final livestream when you said I was more than a sycophant to you? That you would miss my lattes with steamed austrian goat milk and that you loved the way I made them? Was everything just a fucking lie?!"

He frowned, tilting his head slightly. Something was missing. The latte art. Stone had always drawn something. His own little touch. A heart, a weird doodle of him and Stone, or just Robotnik himself. It was stupid and unnecessary, but it was Stone.

Summary
After the main battle of Sonic 2 Robotnik is deeply wounded in body and mind and plagued by flashbacks and panic attacks. It's a miracle that he even survived the crash from the giant Robot he built with the power of the Master Emerald. His loyal subordinate Aban Stone (with a hidden crush) tries his best to uplift him and care for him as they spent their days in their new hideout.
But during their time together in that tiny new base everything becomes extremely complicated. Suddenly all those new emotions and insecurities are taking over the Doctor's headspace and are overwhelming him.

When Doctor Robotnik died, a part of Stone died as a well, a part of him that was impossible to gain back. The only way to gain it back was if that man was still alive. However, he wasn't, and he had to accept that, in whatever way he could, if he could. The only solution was to make everyone pay, and seek the revenge he oh so desired, no matter what it took.
The only problem was the doctor wasn't dead! He wasn't! He was alive and, well, not well, but breathing. Now it all came down to convincing Stone of that, which seemed like an impossible feat all on its own. Would he manage, would the world end before that, or would the both of them come face to face with the issues long buried and reach a new understanding? Only time would tell, and time was not of the essence.
