This is the second book of Take Me In. (This also goes by the title "REAL Old Fashioned" on other sites).
The book takes place in New York, the setting of Girl Meets World. Shawn Hunter has grown up now and has a chance to make a kid's life better in the same way his adoptive dad Jonathan Turner did.
Shawn and Maya, after Maya's adoption, learn they are kindred spirits with inseparable personalities. Goofy, spontaneous, and a little dangerous. They've realized how much they need each other, but they have also noticed the disorganized and sometimes reckless nature of their relationship.
FYI: None of the characters or photos are mine, only the storyline.

- Shawn’s okay. He went through hell and got back in one piece. Sort of. But for the first time in his entire 30 years, he can say it honestly: he is fine.
- After a “minor inconvenience” these once-best-friends-now-strangers were put back together, after five years apart. No one can change that much in this little time, right? Right! Right? Then why does it feel so weird?

This is the third installment of a series I started nearly 10 years ago.
I want to say you could totally read this fic without reading the other 2. However, this is a direct continuation of cannon changes I made in the previous fics. I have stuck as close as I could to what happened in GMW and basically filled the Shawn gaps that they left there. Some chapters include more episode content than others, but I tried to only use scenes that I needed to in order to add the Shawn angst. There's more about dating Katy, actually staying in touch with Mr. Turner, and what Shawn had to go through to overcome his trauma in order to let himself find a family and become a father.
This started as a prompt someone sent me 4 years ago, the idea of a continuation where Riley and Maya see Shawn's scars and he has to explain. I never had the time to follow through. But once I started, it became more than what anyone actually asked for.
I will try to add specific trigger warnings on each chapter, but please know, this is a story of Shawn returning to the Matthews after years of struggling with alcoholism, self-harm, depression, and suicidal ideation. There are discussions about those issues. Luckily he's got a therapist nowSeries

Basically the after high school years, so final 2 seasons and then their life in New York. It kind of goes along with the show just like the other story did but instead of moving to New York at the end of season 7, they have to come back and finish college. I always was confused as to what they did without finishing school.

"I was wondering if you could write a fanfiction about Shawn and his abusive brother, Eddie. For some reason, I always thought that Eddie did something terrible to Shawn (I think he raped him). It would be great to read about how Shawn deals with it and how those who care about him help him through it, including his other brother, Jack."
The first chapter is the only one with the actual scene of CSA. Please read with caution. It does get talked about it other chapters.
Shawn tries to bury it down for a long time until eventually he has to deal with his trauma and work towards recovery.
