Summary
Sirius was already battling with their post break-up situation. He hasn’t moved on, but maybe Remus has, after the Incident with Snape. He has been forgiven by all of the Marauders, but he still doesn’t feel like going to the Yule Ball because he loves dancing a little too much, and to watch Remus dancing with someone who isn’t him is something he won’t be able to cope. He rather he will stay in than go and deal with another heartbreak. However, Remus encourages him to go to the Yule Ball. Is he giving Sirius a chance to improve their ties?

Lyall flashes a quick smile, before making a shooing motion with his hands. “Go on, now. I’m sure Re would love to see you. Make him eat a little, yeah?”
“Will do,” he tries to smile at Lyall, but he thinks it ends up as more of a grimace.
“Don’t look so glum, lad,” Lyall says, tipping Sirius’s chin up with a bent index finger. “Remus is stronger than he looks, he’ll be alright.”
“I know,” Sirius replies eventually, and this time manages a genuine smile. “I just worry, ‘s all.”
Lyall sighs. “I’m glad he has you, Sirius.”

“Prongs, what am I going to do? I don’t want to hurt him anymore but I can’t stand this. I can’t take the way he looks at me. I know it’s selfish, but I can’t help it, I—” Sirius sobbed lightly, “I think I love him.”
Remus felt his chest tighten. Surely, that’s not what he meant, surely it’s different.
“We all love him mate, but that—” James stammers, surprised.
“No, Prongs! Not like that," Sirius interrupted, "…I’m in love with him. I think I have been for a while now.”

Remus eavesdrops, Sirius apologizes, James makes a bet, and Lily is tired of all these idiots.
It takes place beginning of 6th year, after the Snape Whomping Willow Incident. There's some love magic soulmate-type stuff and smut towards the end.

This isn't fair. This is so, so, far from fair.
“Right." Remus mutters, and Sirius can feel his distain as though it's shards across his skin.
There was a time when they would've laughed; gleeful at the prospect of kissing each other in front of the others. Or when they would've blushed; shy but eager as Remus' scarred hands cupped Sirius' cheeks, smoothing the worry away before leaning in and pressing his lips against Sirius; sweet and naive but so, so sure.
But this time, it's nothing like that.
