Summary
“Pomni?”
Jax's voice is low again, face turning entirely her way, and she only then notices how close he is to feel his breath against her skin. Hands still far apart.
“You mentioned not liking being forgotten,” he recalls, eyes drifting down to his hands.
She nods. “It hurts.”
“What if that person… the one who forgot you, wanted to forget?”
To be forgotten and afraid is Pomni's greatest fear. Post the events of their ringmaster's death, she seeks out someone who might understand.

Summary
The eyes are everywhere.
They hover in the shadows as Jax passes, spawn from random points on the walls, blink up at him from the bowl of soup Ragatha hands him at dinner. He catches one staring from his peripheral vision, sees it pulse green and pink and yellow–colors so vivid his head aches long after he averts his gaze.
No one else reacts to their sudden appearance, which is weird, sure–but so was everything else in the circus. Maybe this was just one of those things it was easier not to think about, like the fact that he looked more animal than human these days, or that at any moment one of the cast could mutate into a hideous monster and beat Jax within an inch of his digital life. Again.
Whatever. Jax can work with that. He’s great at not thinking about things.
What if Jax’s whole 'addressing the audience' bit had a little more truth to it than he lets on? Pre-canon.

Summary
As per usual, Jax is doing fine. He's certainly not bothered by the reevaluation training. No, in fact, he's very well adjusted. Absolutely peachy. Caine's next adventure won't bother him at all, too. Trust him--Jax is always doing swell.
(Jax is traumatized from reevaluation training (he won't admit this). Caine cooks up an even more traumatizing adventure. Jax is totally fine!)

“It's… he pulled them,” Jax blurts.
Pomni blinks up at him, uncomprehending.
“Your… ears?”
Jax nods, swallowing back the bile building in his throat.
“Pulling them hurts?” Pomni guesses.
“You… he pulled them until I–” he sucks in a breath, letting it out in a shaky exhale. “I'm not… It's like a costume, Pomni. He tore it off.”
Jax grapples with the aftermath of the torment nexus.

Summary
"Caine was gone.
"It had been quick, the deletion. Jax hadn’t even realized it until Kinger had walked up to all of them and told them the news. Seeing him go had been odd; one second he was there, full of pent up rage and bruised ego, and the next he had just.. Disappeared.
"Jax was supposed to be happy, wasn’t he? The pain, the torture, all of those cruel adventures were over. But throwing the AI in the trash bin once and for all didn’t feel any more like a win than it did a stalemate.
"The circus had dimmed and parts had fallen apart, all until the place had looked like a toxic wasteland: bleak and devoid of color. ‘Finally,” Jax tried to crack a joke to himself, maybe because he couldn’t bear the gaping quiet standing in the room and needed someone to make it seem better. ‘An exterior that represents its true colors.’
"Frankly, Jax didn’t know what to do. None of them did".

After Episode 8, Jax abstracts. He's confused when he wakes up to a very much alive Caine congratulating him on being the newest member of the circus.
