They can hear laughter below, it sounds mean and mocking. Talking about trading stolen goods? Killing marks? Stealing from pirates? He’s heard it all before in the common rooms with other agents. It would make sense they’d have nothing but the strongest here.
Neither of them can shut their eyes for long, too afraid of being caught. They just need to get out into the open ocean, hell, he would swim Miss Wednesday back if he had to.
“Alright!” The old voice croaks.
They both jump, freezing still.
“The mucus should keep your ship from melting on your way out.” They can hear the sound of a metal pail being set down somewhere.
The door swings open, through the slits in the wood Mr. 9 can make out a shock of ginger hair.

He hates this. He hates what’s going on, how he doesn’t really know the woman in front of him. He swallows, trying to think of what to say or do.
A large explosion rips through the air, and he can see a gun from Igaram’s hair fly off into the distance.
Vivi flinches, and he doesn’t blame her when she doesn’t turn around.
“We don’t have much time then, let’s go.” Nami gestures for Vivi to follow, she turns, and looks at Toru.
His eyes meet hers. Miss Wednesday, Princess, Traitor, Partner.
“Go. I’ll buy you time.” He doesn’t know why he says it, but he knows she’ll be safer with these pirates then with him.
“What?” Her voice cracks, her eyes are wide. “Why would you do that?”
Toru realizes her eyes are warm like the earth under the sun, gentle still in all of this.
