Transfem Ed Week day six: fine fabrics
Izzy hunts down a shipment of royal clothes as an apology for whatever he said wrong on the beach, they redesign Blackbeard, and they finally talk about their feelings.
“When she considered the time taken to spin and dye the thread, to design the images and translate them to weaving and embroidery, her head span. She carefully lifted it and long, perfect pleats fell down the length of it. She hadn’t known women’s wrapping gowns were so full. She turned it to locate the sleeves and saw the pearlescent sheen on the lining. The warp threads were pink and the weft blue, so the angle of viewing changed its color. She had to sit down. As her fingers traced the edge of the lining, she imagined her mother knelt in front of her. ‘Feel it,’ Ed wanted to tell her, and guide her lye-worn hands to the silk, ‘it’s meant for us.’”
