Summary
Essek goes home, and there is no one waiting at his door. This should be some manner of relief. But his towers haven't felt like a safe haven for a long time now, long before errant scourgers appeared to harass him with strange questions. He misses the immediacy of that threat, prefers it over the slow and indulgent terror of whatever punishment is coming for him, someday soon.
He tells himself that he misses only that, the simplicity of being unsafe in the company of predators, and that he does not miss the company itself.

Summary
Dorian closes his eyes, just for a few seconds, squeezing tight and feeling a tear creep out of the corner, trailing across the bridge of his nose. He wants to be comfortable but knows that he can’t. He wants to find comfort and knows he does not deserve it.
He sits up a little anyway and finds eyes on him, sharp and worried in equal amounts. Fy’ra Rai has one arm wrapped in a vine from her perch on the tree she’s watching from. He’d hurt her, he knows, the comment about the five of them because he has to pretend he doesn’t know when he does, he’d seen the pain flicker in her eyes and he feels awful but it’s just another sin to add to the pile that’s rapidly stacking higher.
Nothing is ever simple, but Dorian just wants to cuddle.
