Nico’s expression softened, and he leant in to press a gentle kiss to Gabi’s forehead. He could see in his periphery Gabi’s trainer hovering, probably wanting to take him away to check over himself, maybe put into a warm bath to soothe the muscles, get him doing some stretches to stop his body seizing. He knew the deal, they both did. This interaction couldn’t be much longer. They always promised it wouldn’t affect their races, wouldn’t get in the way.
“I’m room 224,” Nico said softly, raising his hand and brushing his thumb over Gabi’s cheek. “If you want…?”
“Yeah,” Gabi replied without missing a beat. “I’ll see you there, after quali.”
Gabi crashes at his first home race. Nico is there to provide some much needed comfort.

“Max seduced you?” Alex laughs incredulously. “Somehow I struggle to believe that.”
“Well he did. And now I think I’m kind of falling for him and I hate it. Help me.” George groans, lying back and sprawling out his limbs. It’s a little childish but he’s allowed to be dramatic about this- he’s falling in love with his rival.
“Okay, okay,” Alex soothes, probably sensing that George is about to go from playful theatrics to actual hysteria. “Well, do you think he might be developing feelings for you too?”
He thinks of staring at the outline of Max’s face as he said, ‘You could come find me. I’d look after you;’ he thinks of waking up in Max’s bed for the first time with the covers draped over his clean body; he thinks of Max’s firm, warm hand on his torso and ‘let me see you.’
And he nearly says yes.
