Summary
Stiles starts thinking about dropping out of college days before the end of his junior year. He's always wanted to be in law enforcement like his dad, but after spending so many years watching his friends die from the supernatural and being exposed to the worst of humanity through his internship program, he just—can't.
Derek's been on the fringes of the McCall pack since he returned to Beacon Hills. He doesn't feel comfortable there, he doesn't feel comfortable when he's gone—so he spends most of his time alone, helps out Scott when he needs is, and for some reason, answers every text message Stiles sends him.
A year of FaceTime and phone calls don't prepare him, however, for Stiles tossing a duffle bag on his bed in mid-July while he talks about the awesome road trip he has planned for them. Derek doesn't remember agreeing, but he does know this: where Stiles goes, he'll follow.

Then Jackson stumbles onto the burial ground of a witch's ex-husband, Stiles is magically turned into a fox, and things somehow manage to get worse from there. The gratuitous Princess Bride references are only of moderate help.

Stiles nearly gets beer up his nose. “Who said that? Nobody said that.”
“Doing the math,” she taps her temple. “You come out of his bedroom and then a week later here you are at my house looking like a lost puppy waiting for someone to come find you.”
Stiles sees no way out of the truth. She’s read him, and the situation, like a fucking book. “…so what if we were?”
She does this big long sigh, her eyes going up, her mouth in a grim line. She looks so unhappy, it’s like someone just told her that her dog has been run over. “I see this going poorly.”
