That was fine until- well, he got himself stabbed.
Not even just a little stab wound in the arm or something- a full on proper knife in the side kind of stabbed.
If he still had a spleen, he would’ve been fine if he just stopped the bleeding and waited it out for a while, but no, someone had to steal his damn spleen and make his whole life a whole lot more difficult.

Tim shows up injured to Jason's house, and much bonding ensues -

""Let's just leave it alone," Impulse whispered. He grabbed Grian's elbow and tugged him away, returning his smudge to his belt before reaching for his radio. "Well, we found a corpse. Any luck over there?"
He waited for a response, and his chest tightened the longer the silence stretched on.
"Gem? Scar? Hello?"
"Guys?" Grian said into his own radio. "Scar! Gem! Come in! Answer us!"
Impulse shivered. His heart pounded in his ears, eating away at the silence digging into his skin like knives. Every beat squeezed his lungs, his ears buzzing as he waited for a burst of static, for a voice, for any sign from his friends."
Or: While investigating a ghost in a set of underground tunnels, Impulse gets separated from the rest of his friends. Alone and lost, he tries to find his way out and finds something far worse.

“Scar,” Grian says softly, because things are starting to click together in a terrifying way for him. "Where are we?"
“We’re in space, Grian. Just by Venus, I’m pretty sure.”
“Venus,” Grian rasps out. He tries to remember everything he learned about Venus in school: planet of love, twin of Earth. Largely inhospitable (despite the moniker) because of its terrible heat that prevents water on the surface. “Awesome. Love Venus.”
“Y’know, it’s really great this time of year. I always considered buying up an acre or two.”
Grian thinks he might start crying.
