Summary
Light’s desk catches on fire during the placement of L’s illegal surveillance cameras in the Yagami household, burning up the Death Note early on. Light forgets everything, the killings suddenly stop, and Kira fades away from the public consciousness but never from L’s. Six years later, Ryuk returns to Earth with a new Death Note for Light, now an agent in INTERPOL, ready for Round 2. L’s ready too.

Summary
L Lawliet was born in the year 1631, and left on the doorsteps of an English orphanage.
Frozen in time at the age of 24 due to a run in with a vampire, in modern day L is now one of the greatest detectives in the world. When a serial killer known as Kira begins to kill criminals through heart attacks, L agrees to take on the case.
When he realizes one of the suspects is Light Yagami though, everything about the case changes.
Because since 1655, L has seen that face countless times through countless lifetimes. Because even though his name changes with every new lifetime granted, L somehow always runs into him. Somehow, he always seems to be at the source of L's problems, no matter the century.
So L knows as soon as he sees Light Yagami, that he has to be the one he's searching for
aka L is a vampire and somehow always finds a reincarnated Light every few decades, and even though Light has no memory of his past lives, he almost always is the cause of L's issues. It's only more of a headache that L falls in love with the bastard every time too.

Summary
It's a strange thing--to wake up in a place you don't recognise in a city you've never seen; but that's the least of Light Yagami's problems, especially when compared to the prospect of serving the time--and potentially being executed--for a crime he doesn't remember committing. And then there's L.

Summary
Light doesn’t really know what he was expecting when he snapped at L a few nights ago. He knows what he hoped for; L realizing the error of his ways and expressing his contrition in the form of a generous donation to the tip jar on the counter; L keeping his shoes on next time (which should be a no-brainer, honestly); or, better yet, there not being a next time in the first place. But that was all just wishful thinking on his part. Even geniuses need to dream, sometimes.
When L starts talking to him, he wonders if he should have spent his time strategizing instead.
