An almost imperceptible noise, like the smallest leaf falling onto a grassy soil, disturbed the peace of Shen’s bath time. The slow clatter of the water and the buzz of nature all around him were familiar and expected, but this particular sound stood out somehow. He slowly opened his eyes to confirm his intuition and tensed immediately. Zed was here.

Summary
They do not see each other for two years. Shen thinks about him almost every day. He hears about what Zed has been doing with his Yánléi, but he does not see him, and he does not forgive him either. It’s not that his pain has weakened, Shen has just grown strong enough to continue in spite of it. This is—in some way—balance.
Yánléi is a word that means tears.

Shen has always hidden the name on his hip. Soulmates are sacred in Ionia, so the name is not to be talked about. He doesn't realize who it belongs to until it's late.

Zed's quite happy being part of the Shadow Force. No really, he is, he's one of the best, even - despite having a vaguely worrisome tendency to mouth off at his superiors whenever they give particularly idiotic orders.
As a consequence of the latter part he now has a joined mission with a PsyOps-Squad, and it can go either of two ways. Option one: He plays nice with the squad's captain, and all is well. Option two: Zed gains another notch in his list of "successfully pissed off an idiot" and loses his job in the process.
Yeah, self-control's a bitch.
Well, unless you're some PsyOps-Squad's captain, then you're apparently born with an abundance of it, so you specifically can use it to mess with Zed.

An uneasy alliance soon unearths uncomfortable memories for the both of them, and they have to face that maybe, just maybe, what they had can be somehow salvaged.
Alternate summary: Exactly what it says on the tin: the Zed Comic general plot, but with a few changes to better fit in the universe I've established for this series. Mainly Shen's characterization and how the last big plot twist plays out. If you're frustrated with how the comic played out, then I think you might like this fic.
