Description:

A handful of potential insights into the dark side of Severus Snape and the light side of Lucius Malfoy that do not conflict with their public canon portrayals or derail Rowling's plotline in and of themselves, if you manage to keep plot bunnies on a short leash.

Slytherin-centric perspectives on the Dark Arts, and Defence Against the Dark Arts beyond the limitations of how Griffindors tend to separate the world into simplistically good and evil people and intentions. Plus a good reason for Snape to snap out "Don't call me 'coward'." that goes deeper than Rowling offers from a child-friendly Griffindor perspective in Harry's own conclusions.

Notes:

Philosophers please to note that hidden narcissism is an internally-consistent psychological premise for a character famed for his undying love of his childhood friend, and does not interfere with Rowling's published motivations for Severus.

Also that herein lie Occam's Razor premises for why Lucius can behave in ways that do not seem to add up as internally-consistent on-screen.

Just don't ask about Dobby... I personally conclude that his mother must have been exposed to something in the Malfoy Apothecary whilst pregnant to whelp such an oddly motivated character, rather than subscribe to the highly complex, if otherwise impressive, conspiracy theories on why he behaves the way that he does.
