All women are considered betas. Alpha, beta, and omega men can all sire children with a woman, but only an alpha can sire children with an omega. Women have a menstrual cycle and fertility similar to women in our universe. Omegas have an estrous cycle, generally one heat lasting about three days every three months. Omegas are most fertile during their heats, but can become pregnant outside of heat. For lack of a better term omegas have a sort of cloaca that produces a lot of lubrication when an omega is aroused as well as a penis.

A typical pack consists of an alpha leader with some betas (both men and women) and omegas. Larger packs might have more than one alpha, but this is rare. Sometimes a beta man and woman will form a coupled marriage. No other kind of couplings or packs typically have legal standing.

Alphas and omegas are very sensitive to pheromones, betas much less so. Betas can produce a special calming pheromone that is especially helpful during heats when omegas and alphas can get a bit swept up in arousal. Pheromone glands are present in the wrists, on the forehead, and in the genitals.

The nape of the neck is very sensitive, and biting it has a calming effect. If a person willingly submits to the biter they often become totally relaxed. Traditionally alpha leaders bite the other members of their packs to show dominance, but this has become less common in recent years.
