Even as a girl, Natasha was well acquainted with the legend, the mythos. Only, this sad, quiet man didn't seem to match up to the bolshy, apple pie image that had been planted in her head. He kept a rigid routine, nodded with solemn eyes and pinched eyebrows whenever someone at SHIELD suggested he join their cause, and hitched a plastic smile on his face when children pulled at their parents' pant leg because, "Mommy, look! It's Captain America!"
She quickly found that he was, in fact, distressingly human.

And Bucky loved him.
