Dabi's hands are shaking when he tries to open Hawks' window. He grits his teeth and blames nicotine withdrawal, he hasn't even had time for one today. It's dark inside the Hero's apartment and Dabi is grateful for that. Hopefully the bird is out somewhere being all heroic. Dabi can't face anyone in this state.

Hawks is having a hard time after a particularly difficult shift. Dabi breaks into his apartment to help, hopefully.
A flash of pain yanks Hawks out of a dreamless sleep and he jerks awake, the pain exploding immediately and spreading over his back, burning. Hawks gasps and falls back onto the mattress, holding his breath until the pain recedes. It doesn't.

It took a long time before he stayed the night. Then another long while before he let himself fall asleep at all. A lot of work. A lot of trust.
Hawks looks at the weapon in his hand and doesn't know why he's about to ruin all of this.

Dabi sat on the bed and observed as Hawks pulled out bandages from the first aid kit to wrap around his hand, movements sure and steadfast, mechanical and offbeat and Dabi wondered, when was it that he'd become so attuned to the double-agent's tells? Probably sometime between observing him closely enough to watch him slip, and slipping his tongue between Hawks' lips to swallow the lies away.
"Hawks," he said softly. "Did he use his quirk on you?"
"Hm? No, I don't think so. What's his quirk?"
"Fear."Hawks is not okay.
