Summary
Being in “like” with Chat wasn’t the same as with Adrien.
Adrien was blushing and batting lashes, flowers and compliments, looking at books while avoiding stares from jade green eyes. Butterflies fluttering against the walls of her stomach and quick glances when he wasn’t looking, stutters and dressing up just to catch his eye.
Chat was almost the complete opposite.
He was grinning and flirting, roses and candle lit rooftops and familiarity, chaste hugs before imminent danger and falling asleep to the sound of excited rambles. Talks in the dead of night and looking into pupils and seeing honesty reflected back. It was holding hands without feeling awkward and rebuttals to perfectly imperfect puns.

Luka knew he was not a bad person. He wasn’t malicious or spiteful and (while the thought did cross his mind a few mere hours after The Reveal) he wouldn’t begrudge her a relationship with Adrien. Because Adrien and Marinette weren’t bad people either. Marinette had kept secrets and Adrien had lied to others but that was something necessary. Luka… he understood why Marinette lied and kept things from him now.

The world saw the Agreste family as a broken home who went through tragedy and, admittedly, did not come out the other side unscathed.

Marinette always thinks, when she looks him in the eyes, that he didn’t always look like that, in the same way that her eyes haven’t always looked like they do now.
There’s that knowledge between them that they only have so long before things change, that fate is pulling them closer together with every passing day.
