Erwin paused and his entire body felt aflame. Levi was drunk, he couldn’t totally trust his judgment. Alas, weren’t drunk words just sober thoughts? “Well, we’ll go to my dorm. How’s that sound?”
“Sleepover at Erwin’s?” Levi perked up.
“Yes.” Erwin cupped his face, squishing those cheeks that were chubby no matter how old he got, “Now, will you be good and get in the car?” He gently brushed his cheek with his thumb.

Levi exhaled a deep breath; Erwin always managed to calm his fears. It was their little Mikasa’s first day of school and for some reason he couldn’t maintain his nerves. They hadn’t been apart from her unless she had gone to Hange’s house or her grandfather’s house but Levi trusted them with Mikasa. He knew the girl would be cared for and loved and protected.

Levi smelled like salt, like the sea and the algae. He smelled like the mist in the air and the scales of his tail sparkled like diamonds. His horns were beautiful and proud, and the color of his eyes reminded Erwin of melted iron after it cooled. He had heard the sailors on his father’s ships speak of them, of the merfolk that lived deep below the waves. They sang songs and drowned men, leering them in with their beautiful voices.
