Summary
Groaning, Dazai thrashes, making a choked noise when the collar dug further into his skin. Across the room, Chuuya was in a similar state, nearly foaming at the mouth as he strains against the cuffs, chains rattling in the dim space.
Between them, Mori stands, watching their faces with a detached amusement, scrutinizing pained expressions in silence. “Don’t you want to let out all that steam?” The tone is entirely neutral, as if it couldn’t matter any less to Dazai.
It’s not steam. More like disappointment, with himself if not a little bit with the world. It was his job to save people, and he’d failed, and others were suffering because of him. He had no right to pity himself for it, but here he was, staring at Dazai’s still, open face tipped up at him.
The whiskey is cheap stuff, and it burns his throat on the way down. Kunikida won’t drink too much of it, because he doesn’t deserve the numbing effect of alcohol right now.
