The cold bitter winds that often blew from their peaks had been a softer breath today, and the air had hung about them fresh and clear, like an invisible crystal through which winter could be appreciated for its stillness, its luster. But now they were glad to be in the warm dim of their cottage, the woodsmoke a pleasant curtain and the fire replacing the blinding white of the snow.
