Summary
day one: roses/smoke
There's a flick of metal against magnesium somewhere behind and above him, and the trembling orange flame is held beneath the cigarette still clamped in his mouth. Ash watches it closely, only until the flame catches and it's drawn just as quickly away, taking its warmth along with it.
“Admiring the sunset?” comes the smooth voice.

day 2: promises/betrayal
It’s like we’re married, Ash had joked, far more than once, shoving aside the stacks of notices with their printed red block letters screaming out their contents to the world, to instead fill the cups with diluted juice that tasted like the memory of summer fruit. To spread cheap jam onto bread that breaks their teeth when they bite into it, but it was sweet, and that’s what mattered.
Now the cups are empty.

day 3: baristas/bartenders
What's it like?” Ash asks once Red finishes the sweep of his portion of the bar.
“You gotta stop starting your questions without any context, man.” He feigns disinterest, focuses on the damp rag in his hands and the empty mug in the other. Ash's eyes prickle at the back of his neck, tracking his every move.

day 4: apocalypse/domestic
"You won't believe what I found," Red says, pulling the rusted barn doors shut and redoing the padlocks. In the rain, they don't have to worry too much about being quiet, but force of habit makes him flip the latches shut as silently as possible.
Ash stares at the backpack, only now truly taking note of it. "What?" he demands. "What did you find?"
A laugh, short and breathy and most of all, exhausted. "Give me a moment. I'll show you."

day 5: "oh, i'd do so many things for you"
“I thought,” Red begins, still ever casual, yet breaking his own self-imposed silence. A small victory for Ash. “That you, of all people, would pounce on the offer I made.” A short pause. He must be tilting his head, as he usually does. “Did you get hit in the head?”
Ash, for a moment, conciders telling him to fuck off. Then he considers punching Red square in the nose, hopefully breaking those stupid shades in the same moment.
He settles, instead, on a different option. Standing and, in the same motion, drawing his sword to whirl to point at Red, he orders, “Get the fuck out of my house.”
Red, sword point digging into his back, laughs the whole way out.

Summary
day 6: gods/disciples
Red would say that they are cursed.
Never out loud, of course, never: to commit such a transgression would be no less than an act of treason. An act of suicide. To say such a thing aloud, releasing your words to the air, would be the same as throwing yourself off the highest spire and expecting to land perfectly fine at the bottom. To sneer at gravity is useless. Arrogant.
Hopeless.
The same is to be said about mouthing off the gods.
